With Daymon at the helm, and Joni manning the receiver tablet, our crew is able to use the latest technology with lasers and CAD software to draw the spaces we are working with in 3D and create accurate measurements and schematics to represent what we are trying to fabricate. What used to take multiple trips and many hours pattering and modifying pieces can now be done in just two trips! We use the first trip to shoot the job in the lasers and to plan the project with th...e customers and the second trip is to install! Currently, crew member Brik is in training with our laser and the CAD programs we use and we look forward to learning with him as he is bound to discover some tips and tricks we haven’t found on our own. Ever been out for a beautiful day on the lake, only to have a sudden rain storm blow in and ruin the summer vibes? It’s happened to us too. That’s why we came up with the fabric enclosure. It works like a cover when you aren’t on the boat which keeps the pollen and grime off your upholstery, but when it isn’t in use it can be bundled up and stored under a seat or even just rolled up and snapped to the frame out of the way. Over the years we have used many different types of dock carts to help us in the day to day operations at Lakeside. From old school garden carts, wagons, to our first electric cart which Crew Captain Daymon built on top of an electric wheelchair base. For our new cart, we wanted 4 wheel drive and we wanted a strong rechargeable electric motor. Earlier this year we showed you our welding marathon for the high volume of sport tops on the books for the first part of the year. Over the past few weeks, many of those tops have been installed and we thought we would share some of the final products with you! Sport tops are usually laced on using 5/8ths NeoBraid Polyester Cord #4 which we find to be perfect for the job. It is made in such a way that as you lace it, it does not kink, twist, or fray which means less fighting the ropes for the install crew. We also recommend using Plexus Plastic Cleaner as a polish on your vinyl windows to help maintain a clear and polished shine while repelling water and dust. For waterproofing canvas, our suggestion is using 303 Fabric Guard which can help you get several more years of use out of your canvas if it's beginning to show its age and leak just a bit. This project is a one of a kind mooring cover for a truly special wooden sailing vessel. We completed this project in just 2 trips, one in January to get super accurate laser measurements to be able to design the project in CAD, and the second trip was in June to install a perfectly fitted cover! The laser measurements were key to our success on this project as the commute between our home base near Atlanta, GA to the beautiful costal waters of Apalachicola, FL was around ...6 hours each way.
