11/2020 This post reached over 8000 people and now almost 400 more. I pray God has used my story to help someone who faith has been failing. Trust God always!!!...!!! Day 28...Horrific memory is just like yesterday. I am so thankful to God for sparing my life..... On the morning of November 28, 2016, I woke up as usual, got ready and left for work. Little did I know that my life would forever, drastically change before the day passed. The smoke was extremely heavy and I ask about evacuations because it was difficult to breathe. There were none. I left work at noon to go home to check on my fur babies and check on the status of fires that had been burning in the Chimneys for over a week. I stopped by the Post Office and the Police station to make sure I was safe staying in Gatlinburg where I lived. It being a small town everyone knows everyone and there was laughter about me leaving at the police station. I was told no reason at all to worry about the fires because they were miles away and would not reach us. I went home and kept the television on for any alerts along with alerts from my cell phone. None would come. Several people called me to raise my awareness so I called the police station. I was told that there was no concern for alarm. No evacuation had been ordered. Around 5:00 pm I received a call that the spur (Hwy 441 into Gatlinburg) was on fire and spreading fast. I again called the police station and again was told all was well. I received a call later that Westgate Resort on several acres were completely engulfed in fire. I called the Police department again as well as the fire department and was again told no evacuations and I was in no jeopardy. My brother called around 8:00pm from Georgia with concern. I called the Police station again around 8:15 and again was told that they would have plenty of time for me to evacuate if needed and would call, do a door to door and send alerts. That never happened! I called my brother back to reassure him and my electricity went out. As I went outside I noticed everyone’s electricity directly around me was on but mine. I walked around my front porch and deck to the left and a single small tree had fell and pulled my electricity line down. I now know that was God warning me. As I turned to go in the house from my deck I saw all my trees on the right side on fire at my house. I ran in the house and got a towel and wash cloth wet it and grabbed my dogs. I harnessed my fur babies in the car and put the wet towel on them to have them breathe better. I then ran in the house and tried to save some items, but a voice said LEAVE.LEAVE NOW!! I dropped everything and ran. I was then running for my life as the fires had completely reached me. I could hear the loud booms of propane tanks blowing including mine. I lived up high off of Roaring Fork on Woodland Dr. I started coming down the mountain as it was raining fire everywhere. Fire was on both sides of the road as I tried to get down the mountain with 85 mph winds (I would later learn). I got to bottom of the narrow road at Treetops Resort on Roaring Fork Road to be stopped by a burning car sideways blocking the road entirely. There was no way out! I called 911 for help; she told me they could not helpI told her we are all going to die if we do not get help. She hung up. I was praying and at that moment I made a decision that I would not die for lack of trying to survive. I then decided to go fast enough to knock the car out of the way and go fast enough to get over the trees and power poles on fire across the road and if I caught on fire maybe I could get out and roll down to the creek. I unhooked my fur babies and wrapped my arm around so I could grab them if I caught on fire. I prayed and prayed, closed my eyes, and stomp the accelerator. I lost time. All I know is when I opened my eyes the burning car was behind me still blocking the road along with the tree and power poles burning. I had part of an electric line wrapped around my car but I kept going and it pulled loose. My car was not burned and my tires were not melted or on fire but still rolling. I got to Hwy 321 East at the end and it looked like the entire city was burning in the dark. Raining fire everywhere like a thunderstorm of nothing but fire everywhere. I called a friend to keep her on the line in case I could not find a way out to safety so she could tell my children and authorities. I tried several ways out only to meet fire and blocked roads. I finally escaped through Pittman Center. As the smoke cleared and dawn broke, I had lost everything of over 40 years of hard work, all my cherished momentums, my job as my place of business was 85% burned. I had nothing left but my fur babies, me, and my faith in God. My heart was so sad and hurting so much. I pondered how I got out and others did not. This was difficult for me to accept. I lost one of my neighbors of 23 years and 3 other friends in the fires. My heart did not think it could ever recover. As I tried to recall my escape I realized that God and only God had saved me. My work was not finished here on earth. God still had plans for me for there is no other explanation of how I escaped. Somehow, I was lifted and took over the fires. The car was still sideways in the road as I looked in my rear-view mirror. Later I would speak to people who were behind me who confirmed they could not get through because of the burning car and trees across the road. As the days and weeks passed, I began to realize that I must make a plan to start over. After much praying and listening to God, I left my beautiful Smokey Mountain home of over 23 years and embarked on a new life adventure. I relocated June 4, 2017 to Macon, Georgia, where my daughter and family resides and my brother nearby and I began to rebuild my life. Being in the real estate field for over 45 years, I set out to obtain my Georgia real estate license. After many interviews, I selected Coldwell Banker SSK to begin a new career and to begin a new life with God’s help.
