Tax Spotlight: Meet Isabella. Isabella is not worried about the July 15 tax deadline because she plans to file an extension. She knows that she can file Form 4868 which will give her until October 15 to file her return. She plans to file and pay her taxes around September 15. Liberty Tax says: What Isabella does not realize is that filing an extension only gives her extra time to file her return, not pay her taxes due. She must still estimate her tax liability and pay it by July 15. Isabella should quickly calculate how much she will owe and submit her payment to the IRS prior to the extended deadline. #libertytax

Did you neglect to get health insurance in 2019? You may already know that for 2019, there is not a federal penalty if you didn’t have coverage. However, individual states may assess a fee now or in 2020 when you file. So, stop procrastinating and sign up for health insurance before your state institutes these mandates. Call Liberty Tax to find out whether you will be affected. #libertytax

Tax Spotlight: Meet Steve. Steve lost his medical coverage in 2019 when he started his own small business. He’s worried he won’t be able to afford the coverage penalty fee, and he does not have an exemption, so he has been thinking about putting off filing his tax returns. Liberty Tax says: Luckily for Steve, this fee no longer applies on the federal level. However, some individual states still do require health coverage and will charge a fee when state taxes are filed. Steve should determine whether or not his state has this requirement. #libertytax

Deductions. The more deductions you have, the lower your taxable income. If you’re thinking of itemizing, rather than taking the standard deduction, stop procrastinating and determine what expenses will qualify. Then call Liberty Tax to review; we may be able to uncover more deductions for you. Once you have a full view of all deductions, we can get you your maximum refund, or lowest payment, by recommending whether you itemize or take the standard deduction. #libertytax
