Filing for Homestead Exemption If you bought a home last year (before Jan. 1) and it is your legal residence you can file for homestead exemption. If your home is located within city limits, you may need to file for exemption with the city as well. Seniors 62 or over may qualify for additional tax exemptions. Take this action in February!
