Founded in 1979 the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency is responsible for helping people before, during and after disasters. In those 42 years 11 men have led the agency. This week Deanne Criswell becomes the first woman. Ms. Criswell is an experienced emergency manager with more than 25 years of leadership experience in emergency management, including serving as the Commissioner for New York City Emergency Management, as a member of the Colorado Air National Guard and deployed to numerous disaster assignments with FEMA, she also worked as a local firefighter and managed the Aurora, Colorado, office of emergency management. https://www.dhs.gov//secretary-mayorkas-swears-deanne-cris

Hurricane Sally is currently a Category 1 storm and is slowly moving over southern Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. The storm is forecasted to track over the Macon+Bibb County area tonight and tomorrow. The worst of the impacts are expected overnight tonight (9/16/20) and into early tomorrow (9/17/20) afternoon. The US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia has placed us under a Flood/Flash Flood Watch until Friday morning (9/18/20). The forecasted impacts t...o the Macon-Bibb County area are heavy rainfall (4-6 inches), high winds with gusts between 25-30 mph, and the Ocmulgee River is expected to enter into minor flood stage (18 feet) on Friday and continue to rise until Sunday where it may reach moderate flood stage (26 feet). Lastly the potential for brief tornadoes with this system cannot be ruled out. We are closely monitoring this system and if there are any major changes we will keep you updated.
