SLOW ART DAY! APRIL 9 On April 9 at 11am, Madison Museum of Fine Art (MMoFA) hosts Slow Art Day with over 200 other museums around the world. The free event highlights five museum works that participants will view and contemplate and subsequently meet at a local cafe to share impressions. A 2001 study revealed that Metropolitan Museum visitors viewed artworks only 17 seconds on average, a habit called visual grazing. The Louvre discovered that visitors viewed the iconic ...Mona Lisa a mere average of 15 seconds. And the swift virtual view of art via the internet can miss important creative attributes the artist intended. By slowly experiencing a piece of art, viewers can discover the power of visual art without an expert guide. Five MMoFA artworks selected for contemplation feature gifts of art to the MMoFA collection, created by Georgia artists: The monumental Untitled bronze sculpture by George Beasley gifted by American Airlines, Traffic by Joseph Perrin gifted by Elizabeth Sheerer, Henry Ransom’s Sheetscape: The Gift, Christina Vergano’s Paisley gifted by Peachtree Capital, and Birdman by David Driskell. A charitable educational art institution, MMoFA promotes the value of visual art education, teaches the great traditions of visual art, demonstrates how visual art masters nourish lifelong learning and enhance the quality of life. For reservations to the free event call 706-485-4530 or email [email protected] . Birdman by David Driskell, one of five artworks to be featured on Slow Art Day April 9 Sign Up TODAY!
