It's Dr. Elise DeMasters Faust's turn for sharing her story about her chiropractic journey! "I began getting adjusted when I was 19 years old. As a dancer and personal fitness trainer, I knew it was tremendously important to take care of my body. Early on in my career, I realized that our bodies are innate healing organisms and needed to be respected as such. I never actually thought about becoming a chiropractor until I was 25. One day I got to watch a friend of mine (who... was a chiropractor) adjust a patient who was debilitated by a severe headache. I said to him, It must be amazing to walk around with the power to help someone in just your two hands. He replied, You can go back to school and learn to do the same thing! At that moment it was as if a light bulb had gone off in my headthis is what I would do with my life! I haven’t regretted that decision for one second. I packed up my husband, Mark, my two-year-old daughter, Victoria, and everything we owned, put it all in a U-Haul truck, and moved to Atlanta to pursue my chiropractic degree. Going to Life University (which was called Life College at the time) was an amazing experience for me. The college was fairly small and felt like a family community. I even brought Victoria with me to some of my classes (like many other classmates who were moms and dads changing careers like me). While attending Life, I met Vince Campbell. We had the same love of healing, the same philosophy about health, and the same desire to share our love and knowledge with others. So, we decided to open a practice together here in Madison (right after my second daughter, Taylor, was born). We have enjoyed practicing together for almost 14 years, and becoming a part of the Madison community. Our children (Victoria, 22 and Taylor, 15) have grown up here, and my husband is a Professor at the University of Georgia. Part of the appeal of practicing in a small town like Madison is that we don’t just see people in our office and forget about them. Our patients are the people we see every day at the grocery store, at the coffee shop, at the schools. So, we’re invested in helping our patients even more because they’re our friends and neighbors, too." See more

Today we are taking a moment to share Dr. Vince Campbell's story of how he discovered chiropractic with all of you! "The night before Thanksgiving, in 1979, I got a stomach virus. I was puking my guts out, but never got better. A week later we found out I actually had pneumonia! I had to stay in DeKalb General hospital for ten days. Lots of my band friends came to visit while I was there, having my lungs beat on by the respiratory therapist. I found out later, some of them a...ctually thought I was going to die (and at times, I felt like I was too). Good news is, I recovered, and got back to school right before Christmas. But shortly after that, my breathing went steadily downhill. By the time I finished my freshman year at Georgia Tech, I was using an inhaler three times a day and had terrible allergies. After I graduated, a friend of ours started going to a chiropractor for his asthma (he’d been adjusted for his asthma as a child). I didn’t know how it could help me (what does ‘cracking your back’ have to do with your lungs?) and no one in our family had ever been to a chiropractor before. But I needed desperately to get healthy again, so I decided to give chiropractic a try. When the chiropractor explained to me how my nervous system controlled my whole body, and that misalignment/irritation to the nerves (especially the nerves that went to my lungs) could be making my body malfunction, I thought: ‘Wow! Why hadn’t I heard about this before?’ I knew I was in the right place. At that very moment, I remember thinking: - I want to have my spine checked as long as I live - I want to be a chiropractor Since I had just graduated from Tech, I didn’t think seriously about going to chiropractic school yetI thought I had to be an engineer first. So I went to work at a shipyard in Jacksonville, FL for a few years, then moved back to Stone Mountain and worked for Scientific-Atlanta. But the whole time I was still getting adjusted, pestering my chiropractors with question after question, and reading everything I could about natural health and healing. One day my chiropractor said, You should go to Career Day at Life CollegeI think you’d be a good chiropractor. I mentioned it (half-joking) to my wife on the way to dinner that night, and she said, Well, why don’t you? I couldn’t really think of a good reasonand eleven months later, I was sitting in my first class at Life College." See more

Dr. Elise says: We don’t change the world by trying to change the WORLD. We change the world by realizing that we have the capability of changing and transforming our own life and the individual lives we touch. EVERY SINGLE interaction we have, contains the potential to help, to heal, to transform. Sometimes we just forget that. The part of our ego that gets bogged down by old patterning blinds us to this truth. So today, this minute, commit to using the grace you have been given, to touch someone else’s life with that same grace. BINGO! You’ve just changed the world. Sending peace and a hug out to you.
