September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Many times, we tell ourselves it cannot happen to us, or surely our child isn't that sad or anxious. Here are signs of depression to look for in adolescents: Irritability or anger (especially in young children) Persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness Loss of interest in activities Increased sensitivity to rejection... Changes in appetite and/ or sleep Vocal outbursts or crying Difficulty concentrating Fatigue and low energy Physical complaints (such as stomachaches, headaches) that don't respond to treatment Reduced ability to function during events and activities at home or with friends, in school, extracurricular activities, and in other hobbies or interests Feelings of worthlessness or guilt Impaired thinking or concentration Thoughts of death or suicide Reach out if you need support in how to talk with your child about possible symptoms and concerns. Let's not lose another life to suicide.

Meet Emmie, a sidekick in the therapy room! Janeah adopted Emmie from a rescue several years ago. Emmie was found as a puppy with siblings on the streets. Many times dogs with black and brown markings are assumed to be mean, or trained to be aggressive. Janeah felt Emmie could help break these labels, just like many individuals face stigmas. Emmie loves to dress up, or just lay by someone's feet to offer support.
