From President Dave Schwieger: Merry Christmas! As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, may we recognize the blessings that are ours because of his life and sacrifice. Elder Jeffrey R Holland has taught: ... Christ knows better than all others that the trials of life can be very deep and we are not shallow people if we struggle with them. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. Of that I personally attest. I thank my Father in Heaven for His goodness past, present, and future, and I do so in the name of His Beloved Son and most generous high priest, even the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
From our community to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas
The Marietta East Stake participated in the 17th Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Celebration on November 18, 2021, along with 16 other interfaith congregations i...n the Atlanta area. The celebration was broadcast on YouTube from the Temple Kol Emeth Synagogue and had 775 people logged in to participate virtually. In addition, $3300 was raised for the Give-A-Gobble Campaign that benefitted 7 local, community-based and/or faith-based organizations including Center for Family Resources, Families First, Family Promise of Cobb County Inc., Jewish Family and Career Services, Streetwise Georgia, Sweetwater Mission, and United Military Care, Inc. Stake President James Watson gave a powerful presentation on Rebuilding Hope Together by asking others to Love God and Love Thy Neighbor. Larnie Higgins of the Westfield Ward was the graphic designer for the publicity flyer. Mercedes Watson, a young woman in the Macedonia Ward, also participated in a teen presentation with teens from other denominations on how they can rebuild hope today. It was a wonderful night of celebrating hope together. See more
Stake Temple Week January 11-15, 2022 Schedule your session: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//atlanta-georgia-templ... The Stake Presidency has asked that we schedule January 11-15, 2022 as a week of shared temple worship. During this week we ask that stake members make every effort to schedule sessions in the temple. We encourage members to visit the temple as families where possible, taking at least one family file name for each family member attending. Recall that in the October 2021 General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson taught us: The temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ. (October 2021 General Conference, Sunday Morning Session). The opportunity to worship in the temple as individuals and families helps us focus on our sacred covenants and assist others to prepare to take the next covenant step in their own lives.

On Sunday, August 22, the Marietta Georgia East Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints met for its semiannual stake conference. At this meeting, former Stake President Rodney Roberts and his two counselors, John King and David Schweiger, were released, and a new presidency was called. Replacing Roberts as the Georgia Marietta East Stake President is James Watson. James has a full-time position as Sr. Director of Strategic Operations for McKesson. He and ...his wife Michelle, have 5 children. Serving as his first counselor is David Schweiger. David has a full-time position as a manager with Orkin. He and his wife, Lora, have 3 children. The second counselor is Steve Madsen. Steve has a full-time position as a Project Manager at WellStar Health System. He and his wife, Carrie, have four children. President James Watson shared, Our focus is to live, love, and serve as our Savior Jesus Christ does. Two visiting church leaders attended the conference to oversee the selection of the new stake presidency and to address the large congregation assembled for the conference. General Authority Seventy Elder Matthew S. Holland of Utah and Area Seventy Elder M. Andrew Galt of Suwanee, Georgia were on assignment by the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to call and set apart the new presidency. A stake president is described as the lay leader of a stake, which is a geographic subdivision similar to a Catholic diocese. Serving as a volunteer usually for a period of approximately nine years, the stake president oversees Church programs and stake members in their efforts to follow Jesus Christ. The Marietta Georgia East Stake is comprised of ten congregations and approximately four thousand members that are located throughout East Cobb and Cherokee Counties, plus North Georgia counties of Gilmer, Fannin, and Pickens. Holland, Second Counselor President Steve Madsen, Stake President James Watson, First Counselor President David Schwieger, and Area Seventy Elder M. Andrew Galt.
