Through his research, a recent Mercer University College of Professional Advancement Ph.D. graduate hopes to bring awareness to the grief that Black Division I college football players face after their sports careers end and help improve their overall well-being.

Mercer chemistry faculty members Dr. Joseph Keene and Dr. Kevin Bucholtz have been awarded a $344,289 grant through the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)/Office of Naval Research for their research related to corrosion prevention and control.

The Hon. Mary Alice Buckner is being honored with the Tony Baldwin Trailblazer Award from the Black Law Students Association Alumni Council during a virtual Alumni Gala on Friday.

Let's take a closer look at another building on Mercer's original campus in Penfield, Georgia. This was the home of Billington Sanders, who was instrumental in the University's founding and served as its first president from 1833-40, and his wife, Cynthia. The couple had 13 children, five of whom attended Mercer. Their daughter, Emily, married Joseph E. Willet, who the Willet Science Center is name for. The Sanders were quite the pair, with Cynthia being very short in statur...e and Billington standing over 6 feet tall. Cynthia was a mother-figure to the Mercer students and was lovingly called "Ole Miss." She ran their home as a boarding house for students until the University moved to Macon in 1871, kept the books for the University and was responsible for its vegetable garden. The home is still owned by members of the Sanders family, who continue to hold annual reunions and gatherings there. #MercerTraditions See more
