MEET OUR DOCTOR, J.A. BEDINGFIELD , JR, MD 1. What was growing up like for you? I was raised in the small town of Baxley. My father was the doctor for the community and he let me follow him around the office and make house calls. It was then that I had a strong desire to help people. Particularly with surgery.... 2. What attracted you to surgery? I was intrigued by watching my dad sew patients back up and I wanted to help people in that way. 3. What is your favorite part about working? Being asked to participate in the care of our patients . It gives me great job satisfaction that significantly outweighs the hours, the stress and the hard work. They are all part of my life, but the payoff is so very rewarding. 4. Where did you train in medical school and residency? I attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia (MUSC) in Augusta. My residency program was at Medical University of South Carolina. My training there included being chief resident of surgery. 5. What hospital are you affiliated with? I have been here in Dublin for 33 years and affiliated with Fairview Park Hospital. 6. What are your hobbies, interests, or pastimes? Family first as that is time we can never replace. I enjoy farming, writing music, playing guitar, and attending University of Georgia football games.
