Mincey Marble 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s JoAnn and Kenneth Mincey co-founded Mincey Marble in 1977. For the next 38 years they were the foundation, the cornerstone, the glue that held Mincey Marble together. Unfortunately even the strongest foundations can have cracks. That happened in 2014 when JoAnn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In 2016 this beautiful friend, wife and loving mother was gone. Sadly JoAnn was not alone. Between 2000 and 2018 deaths from Alzheimer’s in...creased 146% Two thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s are women Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease There are over 16 million caregivers of people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in the United States It is said that time heals all wounds. While that may be true, I am not sure that it repairs all hearts. While JoAnn is no longer with us, she remains forever in our hearts. Ever since her passing, Mincey Marble employees have participated in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s here in our hometown of Gainesville, GA. Now in 2020, the year of COVID, the walk was virtual. There wasn’t a single gathering of all the walkers but rather many walks through-out our community. This year’s team-walk was the largest yet at Mincey, with over 60 employees, family members and friends participating. On Saturday, October 3rd, we pulled out our sweatshirts and jackets, put on some jeans, found our best pair of walking shoes and then walked a few miles to help raise money to combat this deadly disease. Here at Mincey it’s become more than a walk. We want JoAnn to know that while she can’t be here, she lives in our hearts and we miss her dearly. We want her to know that she will not be forgotten and while we are raising money for others, we are doing this for her. JoAnn we miss you and love you. Until we meet again.
