Meet Bessie and Ethel! Post 4/6 for #nationalblackcatday Bessie is currently living with her foster parents and her sister Ethel. She is very calm and quiet. She likes to sit with you and cuddle. Ethel is very playful, but she is also very sweet. She loves to sit in your lap, and she enjoys soft blankets. They both get along with cats, dogs, and children, and are litterbox trained! Submit an adoption application at www.moaspets.com/adoptionapp to set up a meet and greet wit...h Bessie! #adoptdontshop #spayandneuter #savelives #fosterkittens #blackcats #blackcatlove #adoptus #adoptable

Meet Kelly, Goldie and Alba! Post 3/6 for #NationalBlackCatDay. They are three adorable and beautifully patterned tuxedo kittens who are currently living it up in their foster home together. They are finally old enough to be adopted, and they are looking for a new home to call their own. Do you already have other kitties by any chance? These kittens love hanging out with their foster mom's older cats, and we know these guys get along really well with other kitties. These cu...ties are all very friendly and playful (they love chasing things, including each others tails!), and aren't really afraid of anything. If you'd like to meet them, please send in an adoption application at www.moaspets.com/adoptionapp, and our foster coordinator will set up a meet and greet with their foster mom! #adoptdontshop #spayandneuter #savelives #fosterkittens #adoptable #adoptus #fosteringsaveslives #blackcat #tuxedokittens

As you may have heard, we have had to temporarily reduce cat adoption services due to a contagious but manageable virus affecting the cats at the shelter. But we still have cats and kittens that have been in foster homes available for adoption! We want to celebrate National Black Cat Day by showing you all the black cats we have available for adoption! We also want to highlight the myths surrounding black cats. 1. While some people tend to be concerned about the adoption of ...black cats around Halloween, there is no evidence to suggest that black cats are unsafely adopted at this time of the year. And we screen our adopters! 2. Black cats are considered superstitiously to be bad luck. But in other cultures around the world, black cats are quite the opposite! In Japan and Ireland for example, black cats are considered to be signs of good luck! And in ancient Egypt, black cats were thought to be the embodiment of gods. We promise these adorable kittens will be bringing you only lots of love and joy. And we think that makes you and the kitten very lucky. 3. Studies have shown that Black cats are not actually less likely to be adopted but that there are just that many more of them! The black coloring of cats is a dominant gene and so cats are genetically more likely to have genes that make them black. Featured in this post is Raven, who came in with several other Halloween kittens. All of her siblings have been adopted and she is just waiting for you! Please check in throughout the day to see more of the sweet, festive, and adorable black kittens we have available! #blackcatlove #adoptable #nationalblackcatday #adoptdontshop #savelives #raven #halloween #blackcat

Good news and bad news folks. Bad news - one of our teams for Putts for Mutts had to drop out. Good news - that means there's space for your team! We are also still looking for two more folks to join another duo to make a 4 person team. We can also take individual registrations if you don't have a buddy to play with! You can register for 4 or 2 persons on our website at https://www.moaspets.com/puttsformutts, and if you'd like to register individually, just email [email protected]!

It's National Pit Bull Awareness Day! We want to celebrate the Pit Bulls at MOAS right now and also raise awareness for them. So we are sharing 9 ways to celebrate Pit Bull Awareness day! Each photo features a pit bull available for adoption at MOAS. First and foremost, we want to advocate for Pit Bulls in shelters everywhere and dispel the myths that harm them. #dontbullymybreed 1. Pit bulls are not any more vicious than other popular breeds like golden retrievers, beagles.... The American Temperament Testing Society tested 240 breeds of dogs (badrap.org) 2. Dog aggressive behavior does not mean people aggressive behavior! Some pit bulls do not get along with other dogs or cats, but they love their humans loyally. And dogs across many breeds don't get along with cats! 3. Pit bulls are not naturally dangerous around children nor are they more or less dangerous than other breeds. They used to be more known for their loving demeanor with children. We have 11 pit bull mixes available at the shelter or in foster right now. The average length of time these available dogs have stayed at the shelter is 88 days and ranges from 22 to 374 days. That is a long time for these pups to be in a shelter! Because of the harmful stereotypes, breed restrictions in housing, and over breeding of pit bulls, we get many pit bulls in and they are sadly harder to get adopted. All of this contributes to longer stays in shelters or foster homes. Learn more about pit bulls and help us get these loving furbabies adopted! #nationalpitbullawarenessday
