Installing new roof shingles over an existing roof is never a good idea, especially when the existing roof is only 2 years old. If a leak occurs, repair the leak and the surrounding area as needed. Never do major repairs with only one quote. Always get more than 2 quotes to hear the opinion of other contractors.

Okay. What is the easiest way to determine if rodents are in your home? Just count the snake skins, of course. I counted seven, yes seven, 4'-5' long snake skins in this Crawlspace. Fun.

That was fun. See that roof access stairwell way over there? This is about where I was when the propped door closed, trapping me on the roof, alone, without my phone. Yeah, it was a great day.

Yes, I certainly appreciate your humor by placing this at the top of the attic stairs. Thank you. May my heart beat now return to normal.

Definitely feeling a touch sea sink after looking at this Hardie Plank installation.

Time for some freezing temperatures in Georgia. Is your home ready? https://www.morlinpropertyinspections.com//fall-is-finally

Definitely not cool. Yes, the home did have a rodent problem, but it is completely unprofessional for a contractor to write this on their service sheet.

Can't get any closer to actually falling than this. Just a slight breeze will send it over.

Okay, who had water in their basement during the last couple of storms? Before you call a waterproofing company, do a little discovery work for yourself. Are the gutters clean? Is water diverted away from the home via gutter downspout extensions? Look around your home. Where does water flow from and to during storms. Most water intrusion concerns arise from poor drainage / grading. Start from the outside and don't get sold things you really don't need. When the home was constructed, there most likely were no water problems. What happened?

I find all sorts of things when performing inspections. Sometimes I find things I don't want to see. Repairs will be needed.

Oh, yeah! 1974 was such a fine year. Except for the god awful decorating style, that is. I would like to say that this is not a redux. Purely original.

Although discontinued in 2010, some homes still have Atlas Chalet shingles installed. What's the problem? The shingle was actual a 3-tab shingle but had the appearance of a more expensive architectural style shingle. As the roofing shingles are no longer manufactured, repairs are not possible, forcing you to replace the entire roof. Do your research when buying or selling a home with these. If they are older and don't leak, is there a concern?

Well, that woke me up! Nothing better than a rock shattering your side window when driving through a construction zone.

I am certainly glad the front door has a peep hole. I wouldn't want to be surprised by a stranger.

I really like old homes with some of the original elements, especially coal fireplaces. This is definitely one of the coolest tile designs I have seen. 1909 was a great year.

Wow, that was close. I've done it in the past and have vowed to never again spray myself in the face when turning on the shower. I think I was set up.

"No toy gets left behind", well except for you. Poor little fella didn't stand a chance. I have seen some odd things left behind.

I really love interesting fully finished basements in older homes. This is just right.

Umm. Note to self. Mice like to eat deer noses. Yes, each and every day I learn new and exciting things.

Richard Morse 17.06.2020

I really like non traditional, interesting homes. This definitely fits my taste.

Those pesky little critters. If they want to get in, they will. Note to self. Vinyl gutter guards are tasty.

This is exactly why we need to save old homes and buildings. They all have history that needs to be told. Cool story.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate". It always amazes me that these things happen.

Richard Morse 14.05.2020

Not my picture, but awesome none the less. Note to self. Make your renovations timeless.

Old, historic apartment buildings are great to look at. I love the character, especially when much of the original wood working had been retained. These floors are awesome. The old mechanical's? Well, that's another story.

Richard Morse 21.04.2020

Yes, I would be mad at this. The satellite dish installer brought the cable through and damaged the bathroom vent piping. Super lazy install. Always check work performed in your home. Always!

Finding a roofing contractor that knows and follows all applicable building codes and installation instructions is essential. Proper installation of flashing is a must to prevent water entry. Just look at my "New" construction post below.

I do like the look and feel of a newly constructed home. Everything is clean and fresh. That though does not eliminate the need to have it inspected. On the home I inspected today, I found that brick veneer had been installed directly on top of the roofing shingles. No flashing and no visible means to support the veneer = future leaks.
