Each year, school districts in Northeast Georgia’s Pioneer RESA honor an individual who has a strong commitment to improving educational outcomes for students with disabilities by presenting the Philip Wright Award. The award is given in the name of Philip Wright, who created a legacy of service in this area. Each RESA district selects an individual who exemplifies service, deep respect, regard, commitment, and advocacy for children with special needs. Lori has spent over 30 ...years serving students with disabilities across all of North GA and out of state as well. She has worked with MECHS since 2012 as a Special Education Teacher at our Habersham Site. Over the past year, Lori has served students with disabilities in various unique settings across MECHS to include residential placements as well as transition agencies. She has willingly adjusted her "retired" life schedule in order to serve our students and meet their needs without hesitation. Lori quickly forms a bond with students and goes above and beyond to help them succeed, regardless of the circumstances and obstacles that they have to overcome! She continues to demonstrate a servant's heart at MECHS as she supports our students with disabilities. Congratulations Lori on this well-deserved award! Hunter Fortson is a work-based learning student who maintains a job at the Farmer's Exchange in Royston, GA. MECHS plans to return to the Monday - Thursday in-person schedule beginning Thursday, February 18th, 2021. Students will still have the choice of in-person or virtual learning as desired. We are excited to welcome students in the buildings each week and look forward to seeing more and more students return to campus.
