What could working with an occupational therapist look like for you? For starters, working with an OT looks different for everyone. It really depends what works best for you & your family. Individual therapy is certainly one of the most conventional ways we work with families, but it's not the only option. There's parent coaching, consultations, screenings, + more. ... Considering working with an OT? We wrote a blog post about pediatric occupational therapy & how it can help your child (+ what it looks like to work with one) on our blog. Hey there! It's been a while since we've shown up for our community on here. Let's face it, 2020 was not the year all of us had hoped for. We wanted to take the start of a new year to share something that has been on our hearts in responce to everything and to hilight what this commuinty is about.

Great game! Motor sequencing, weight bearing and memory.
Here’s to you Mom - you are courageous & kind. You are thoughtful and driven. You are tough and gentle. You know what to say, and what not to say. You are a leader. You are so generous & giving. You are supportive & give the benefit of the doubt. Your are smart and anticipate our needs. You are a role model. Here’s to you and all of the sacrifices you make everyday to put the people you love first. . We are so lucky to work with such an incredible community, or more like army, of Mommas & Mother figures. Today is your day (and I know that one day is not nearly enough). Let’s celebrate each other together! Tag your momma or mother figure and let them know how special they are to you.
Here’s a fun quarantine project - make one of your walls a giant chalkboard! . I love using my giant chalkboard in the gym to help my kiddos with handwriting. Muscle wise, it helps strengthen shoulder muscles needed for fine motor control. Visual wise, it engages their eyes and it is great for eye hand coordination and helps develop visual perceptual skills. It can also provide an easy was to work on fine motor skills in a new, fun way. You could play tic tac toe, hangman, or have a drawing contest. If you pain your wall in the kitchen, you could have your kiddos help your write out the grocery list on the chalkboard - or write out the menu for the week. . Overall it’s a no brainer, can’t go wrong here - I highly suggest
Double tap if you agree with that statement! . I was thinking the other day about growth mindset & how during this time I’ve had to really lean into that mindset with my business. If you would have told me two months ago that I would be providing therapy online, I wouldn’t believe you. . I am definitely not a tech savy person. Ask my family. From time to time I have to ask how to operate the tv - how many dang remotes do we need?!!... . But here I am, providing quality telehealth services to at least half of my clients! It’s amazing where we can end up - how much we can learn & grow when we put our minds to it. . I just wanted to encourage you to keep going. Keep persisting past the frustration, past the ‘everything feels like it’s out of control & I can’t get anything done’ zone. Keep trying new things, new routines, new methods. Take a deep breath. Know that this is not permanent. All you can do is try your best everyday. Find the small wins & cling to them! . Sending you all the good vibes & virtual hugs today. Please reach out if you see a need that I/we could fulfill, we’d love to help out :) See more
Today’s sensory rich activity is... playing with shaving cream! . What makes playing with shaving cream a ‘sensory rich activity’? . An activity qualifies as being sensory rich when it involves 3+ senses.... . So with shaving cream we are feeling the smooth cream on our skin (touch), we are smelling the scent of the cream (smell), we are looking & using our eyes as we draw or play in the cream (sight), if we are playing with shaving cream on the windows we are getting lots of movement as we move our arms, reaching to cover the whole window (maybe even going on our tippie toes which is muscle work!). . We would love to see you guys doing these sensory activities so please tag us! . If you haven’t downloaded the workbook yet, go grab it! You can download it & follow along with each day’s activity on our website at childreninmotion.com/sensory-workbook See more
