Creating a new positive pattern! I was informed that this horse over the last 2 years had become increasing difficult and aggressive when getting trimmed. It ...had escalated that even under heavy sedation, it had become a dangerous situation. This is the first time that the horse is being trimmed using a new positive pattern using: 1. New location (outside rather than in barn) 2. no fixed restraint (loose lead line), 3. new farrier 4. positive rewards. Result: Horse was completely relaxed and farrier was easily able to trim all 4 feet. Note: this post is not to bash on farriers! This post is to encourage horse owners that see negative patterns developing in any area regarding their horse or mule, to seek a new positive way to begin a better pattern. See more
