Worried about COVID-19 infecting your baby? Keep breastfeeding! The virus has NOT been found in human milk, but your breastmilk is loaded with immune factors to... help fight COVID-19! If you are too sick to breastfeed directly, have someone help you pump and give the milk to your baby, who has most likely already been exposed. If you are infected with mild to moderate symptoms, wash your hands before nursing and wear a mask if possible. If you are using a breastmilk substitute, be extra careful about hygiene and sterilization (see the CDC guidelines on formula prep) and consider relactation (La Leche League International has more information - or see an IBCLC). If Mom and/or baby gets coronavirus, she should definitely keep nursing.

YES! Keep breastfeeding even if you have been exposed to the coronavirus or have the coronavirus. #keeponboobin’

When we nurse our babies and a hurricane blows through and knocks out electricity and water, we don't have to worry about how to keep the baby's milk good. Make sure to learn how to hand exoress, especially if you are exclusively pumping. Even expressed milk lasts at least 4-5 hours unrefrigerated and in a cool place. Why? Because it is alive!!!! Nurse on, Sister Mamas! Enjoy the peace of mind nursing provides in disasters.

Breastfeeding doesn't have to be all or nothing. Even if you are supplementing with formula, you are still breastfeeding.Breastfeeding doesn't have to be all or nothing. Even if you are supplementing with formula, you are still breastfeeding.
