Meet Jonathan! Jonathan serves on The Welcome Co-op team, part of a collaborative effort between New AP, Catholic Charities Atlanta (CCA), and the International Rescue Committee Atlanta (IRC). Jonathan says: I’ve been with New AP/ the Welcome Co-Op since December 16th of 2019, and I have to say it has been a wonderful journey so far. I used to work for IRC as a Case Aide from May 2019 until December 2019. While at IRC, there was talk of a program called the Welcome Co-Op b...eing put together, headed up by New AP which would focus on the housing setups collaboratively for New AP, IRC and Catholic Charities. With a lot of patience and hard work from the three agencies, the Welcome Co-Op was born, and it has been an interesting adventure so far. For the year of 2020 we set up 90 apartments for 425 refugees between the three agencies and there is nowhere to go but up! Before working in the non-profit world, I was in the food industry for six years. One point that people in the food industry love talking about is when they help open a new restaurant. I never got to share in that experience, but I have a feeling that being a part of the start of the Welcome Co-Op is little bit like that, if not even better. See more

New American Pathways is thrilled to see President Biden reverse the travel ban, which separated families and denied life-saving resettlement services to tens of thousands of people in the direst of circumstances. We are excited to partner with the Biden Administration to rebuild the refugee resettlement program and support a more welcoming and supportive environment for immigrants in the United States. The Trump Administration instituted over 400 changes to immigration pol...icy with the goal of dramatically reducing the number of immigrants coming to the U.S. in every category, which caused hardship for countless families. Our mission over the next few years is to quickly increase our capacity to welcome and serve newly arrived refugees so that we can provide safety to those who need it the most. We look forward to working with the new administration and all of you to help refugees and Georgia thrive. #noban #refugeeswelcome See more

To all who are celebrating, Joyous Kwanzaa!

We are incredibly grateful for the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On this MLK day, we hope you are able to take the time to reflect and serve others. New AP AmeriCorps members will be spending this day writing letters to immigrants in detention, and there are many ways we can all serve our communities virtually for this important day. We'd love to hear what you are doing and how you are honoring the life of Dr. King in the comments. #mlkday #service

New American Pathways is sending congratulations to all of Georgia's elected officials. We especially want to send a shout out to former staff member Jon Ossoff, who worked in the Education and Youth program at RRISA nearly 15 years ago. It's always exciting to see former staff go on to do great things! #gapol #runoffs #gotv

Our After School team has been hard at work this week bagging and delivering gifts for all their students. This year due to COVID we could not host our end of year parties, so every gift was hand delivered to each student’s door by our staff and AmeriCorps members. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! #thanks #givethanks #holiday #holidaycheer #afterschool #giftgiving #happyholidays #thankyou

ICYMI: We have been celebrating new American voters all year and have enjoyed hearing their perspectives as they prepared to vote in the US for the first time. This Thought Leader piece from February, written by Justine and Punam, two new citizens is worth another share. Justine was also interviewed by CNN this year: https://www.cnn.com//us-immigrant-voters-2020-e/index.html

Meet Caitlin! Caitlin Barrow has been with us for two years, working as the Middle School Coordinator and currently serving as the AmeriCorps Program Manager. She recruits, trains, and supports the 15-person AmeriCorps cohort during their year of service at NewAP. Caitlin has a background in art education and first came to us 5 years ago as a part of Project RISE (Refugee and Immigrant Success through Education), an initiative with NewAP in collaboration with Fugees Family t...o support new Americans. She then went to serve with the Peace Corps in Fiji for two years, before returning to work with us again. Caitlin’s favorite part of New AP is the sense of community. She says- It has been such a great experience to be able to share that sense of belonging with our new AmeriCorps members each year. I also love to garden and cook so it was amazing to be able to share recipes and lunch everyday with my fellow coworkers. #meetthestaff #NewAP See more
