New Beginnings Honduras

Reposted from a missionary in Honduras.... please pray.... We are currently on day 88 of the outbreak and lock down here in Honduras and we still have not... peaked. The hospitals are filled to capacity and the doctors are striking because they don’t have protective equipment or medicine to treat patients on the mainland. One man had to buy a respirator for his dad because currently, in the whole country, every one is being used right now. We are just getting cases here on the Roatan. We have 12 now but no testing can be done here, all tests must be sent to the mainland and there is currently a 2 week backlog of kits needing to be tested. The health system here in Honduras is at its breaking point. It is failing rapidly. People are continuing to starve. Even though we are opening slowly, there isn’t enough people allowed out to provide enough work for restaurants, small stores and 80 to 85% of jobs here are based on Tourism so most have no work to go back to at this time. They are expecting many more deaths due to hunger than to COVID. Remember that when you don’t eat well and often that your body’s immune system is at risk. So, when you come into contact with viruses or bacteria, your immune system cannot defend itself against even the slightest invader. Suicide and depression are claiming lives as well. This isn’t just a stay in your home and wait for it to all end quarantine. It’s not the kind where we stock up on groceries for a month at a time. This isn’t I’ll just order out for three meals a day. This isn’t I’ll just run to the doc in the box real quick and get checked out and then pick up my meds and be better in a week or so. This isn’t just work from home or do school from home. All of those things are privileged things people in the USA might have easy access to, but not all. But not in Honduras. This beautiful country is suffering more than I’ve ever seen it suffer. These people are hungry. These people are sick with little to no hope of being treated because there is no medicine, not enough medical equipment, not enough medical personnel, and no money. It’s so hard to sit back and see so much hurting, hopelessness, and pain. Physical. Mental. Emotional. Spiritual. Please take some time out of your day to lift up this wonderful country I call HOME. Please pray for God’s favor and provision would be upon these people. Please pray for the church to reach those who are hungry, lost, and hopeless. Please pray for a spiritual awakening to happen through all of the suffering. Please pray for justice, mercy, and grace.
