I’m not sure if I want to call this justice but it’s definitely accountability. Chauvin represented a system that preys on black bodies, and to see a police officer being held accountable for stealing a black life is overwhelming.
"The fight for full enfranchisement is fundamental to the African-American struggle in this country and to this country’s claim to functioning democracy."

Last night POTUS gave a wonderful speech that was to encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Problem we noticed is that the speech did not quell the fears amongst the black community when it comes to the government and mass vaccination. No matter the ads that play on tv. POTUS and CDC needs to address those fears directly.
AJC has a bill track for those who would like to see the idiotic bills being pushed

Dred Scott was born into slavery sometime in 1795. He made history by launching a legal battle to gain his freedom. After his first owner died, Scott spent time in two free states working for several subsequent owners. Shortly after he married, he tried to buy freedom for himself and his family but failed, so he took his case to the Missouri courts, where he won only to have the decision overturned at the Supreme Court level. Dred Scott v. John F.A. Sandford, legal case in wh...ich the U.S. Supreme Court on March 6, 1857, ruled (72) that a slave (Dred Scott) who had resided in a free state and territory (where slavery was prohibited) was not thereby entitled to his freedom; that African Americans were not and could never be citizens of the United States; and that the Missouri Compromise (1820), which had declared free all territories west of Missouri and north of latitude 3630, was unconstitutional. #blm #blacklivesmatter #blackhistorymonth #dredscott #theconstitutionwaswrittenforwhitemen See more
Paul Bogle, it is believed, was born free about 1822. He was a Baptist deacon in Stony Gut, a few miles north of Morant Bay, and was eligible to vote at a time when there were only 104 voters in the parish of St. Thomas. He was a firm political supporter of George William Gordon. Poverty and injustice in the society and lack of public confidence in the central authority, urged Bogle to lead a protest march to the Morant Bay courthouse on October 11, 1865. In a violent confron...tation with full official forces that followed the march, nearly 500 people were killed and a greater number was flogged and punished before order was restored. Bogle was captured and hanged on October 24, 1865; but his forceful demonstration achieved its objectives. It paved the way for the establishment of just practices in the courts and it brought about a change in official attitude, which made possible the social and economic betterment of the people. #paulbogle #jamaica #blackhistorymonth #blm #blacklivesmatter
Fred Hampton, deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, was born on August 30, 1948 and raised in the Chicago suburb of Maywood, Illinois. In high school he excelled in academics and athletics. After Hampton graduated from high school, he enrolled in a pre-law program at Triton Junior College in River Grove, Illinois. Hampton also became involved in the civil rights movement, joining his local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of... Colored People (NAACP). His dynamic leadership and organizational skills in the branch enabled him to rise to the position of Youth Council President. Hampton mobilized a racially integrated group of five hundred young people who successfully lobbied city officials to create better academic services and recreational facilities for African American children. #blm #blacklivesmatter #blackhistorymonth #fredhampton #blackpanther See more
