Facebook has joined forces with our Tech Together Coalition partners Google, Twitter and the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies (CSIP) to leverage our platforms, products and tools, to promote the efforts of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Takeback Day tomorrow, Saturday, October 24th. In partnership with Facebook, the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies has (CSIP) launched an automated Facebook Messenger experience that provides information about the closest disposal locations, FAQ’s and treatment resources. A new study, conducted by independent global research firm RTI International, found that Facebook’s U.S. data centers provide significant contributions to the economy through capital expenditures, operating expenses and direct wages. The study found that: - During 2017 - 2019, Facebook’s investments in data centers totaled $11.5 billion, and contributed a cumulative $18.6 billion in GDP to the U.S. economy. - For every $1 million in operating expenditures, there were 18 jo...bs supported, and for every $1 million in data center capital expenditures, there were 14 jobs supported in the local economy. - The combined efforts of designing high-efficiency data centers and investing heavily in renewable energy have helped Facebook data centers avoid 3.1 million metric tons of CO2 emissions since 2011. - By operating efficiently and through renewable energy procurement, Facebook saved 3.6 billion gallons of electricity grid-based water consumption in 2019. - From 2017 to 2019, Facebook made over 300 charitable investments in local communities. Facebook is committed to having a positive impact on local communities. We work to hire and source materials locally in order to bring additional investment and jobs to the regions that we call home. We also implement sustainable practices and build some of the most energy efficient data centers in the world, including the Newton Data Center.
