It's a girl! Robert Ferguson was career-oriented and never had children. When Robert retired, he moved to Columbus, Georgia where he met his neighbor, future caregiver and honorary family member, Sharon. The 83-year-old recently suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized at Piedmont Columbus Regional, Sharon by his side. Upon his recovery, Robert decided he no longer wanted to consider Sharon just an honorary family member; Robert officially adopted 63-year-old Sharon as... his daughter, making a beautiful, happy family. Our Rehab and Patient Experience teams wanted to help the two celebrate and threw a surprise baby shower with cupcakes, balloons and bubble gum cigars. And, of course, we couldn't resist the t-shirt that says "#1 Dad." Congratulations to both Robert and Sharon, and thank you for letting our team be a part of this beautiful moment!
Baby Kyra's fun fact? She was born in a parking lot. Kyra's mom, Clarissa Butts, is an EVS attendant at Piedmont Atlanta. Just after waking up from an overnight shift, Clarissa went into labor. She and her husband raced to Piedmont Henry, but before they made it into the building, Kyra was ready for the world! A team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and others rushed to the scene to help. The team helped successfully deliver a beautiful, healthy baby. Sending love to Clarissa and her family as they welcome the newest addition!
They said it was a miracle. My faith in God has always been strong and I just feel blessed that everyone did the right thing and was in the right place at the right time. Tim Boggs recently suffered a stroke. The doctor told me later that with the blockage I had, I shouldn’t be walking or talking, Boggs said. Thankfully, the quick thinking and fast action of his family, emergency medical services and the staff at Piedmont Fayette led to a miraculous outcome. The whole Pie...dmont family is thinking of Tim and wishing him a full and speedy recovery. This stroke awareness month, make sure you know the signs of a stroke so you and your loved ones can B.E. Stacy Mathis has never had a birthday party before. When her infusion team at Piedmont Newton learned this, they knew they wanted to make her first one extra special. On Stacy’s last day of treatment, her team surprised her with a party to celebrate her 51st birthday. Stacy’s friends were also able to come to the party a celebration we hope she’ll always remember!
In this remarkable story of human kindness, two Children's Healthcare of Atlanta employees participated in a paired kidney exchange to save the lives of each other's husbands. The Piedmont Healthcare Transplant team including transplant surgeons Drs. Clark Kensinger and Jon Hundley, nephrologists Drs. Christina Klein and Joshua Wolf, and transplant coordinators Barbara O'Neal and Leanne Whitehead were honored to have helped make these transplants possible.
Fully-vaccinated Piedmont Henry staff members participated in Henry County’s Day of Service Saturday as part of the county’s bicentennial celebration. Our community has been so supportive of us during the past year, said Lily Henson, M.D., CEO of Piedmont Henry. We are grateful to have an opportunity to celebrate our community and help make a positive difference outside the hospital’s walls.

Some thank-yous are extra sweet. Karen Watkins and her mother were both at Piedmont Henry for COVID-19. Although Watkins' mother passed away, Watkins is grateful for the care she received and recently thanked staff with produce boxes. I know my mother received tremendous care," she says, "because I got to see first-hand how amazing everyone on the hospital staff was as they cared for me." ... https://bit.ly/2RsjQbC

Here's something to sweeten your day! Tony Garrett has been a patient at Piedmont Fayette Hospital for more than 80 days and had only seen his daughters through FaceTime since then. It wasn’t how Derrick Smith planned to spend the holidays. The day after Thanksgiving, Smith was admitted to Piedmont Newton with pneumonia due to COVID-19. He was eventually placed on a ventilator, but over time, he began to recover. Sixty-four days after he was admitted, Smith was discharged home, so staff gathered to celebrate him and his recovery. Congratulations!
Thanks to community member Breesa Crocker and her daughter Carley, the pediatric unit at Piedmont Athens was able to provide some Halloween fun for its young patients. The mother-daughter pair brought in a generous donation of Halloween goody bags for the hospital's pediatric patients. Thanks to their generosity, little Caylee is already feeling much better on her first Halloween, despite being in the hospital.

Long-time Athens resident Julie Massey Jenkins recently donated $100,000 to Piedmont Athens Regional’s new tower in memory of her parents, Juliette and Henry Massey. The hospital has always had a special place in my heart, Jenkins said. I was born there, and it’s the place that cared for both my parents before they passed away. So, Jenkins took the appreciation she felt for her community hospital and put it to work. https://bit.ly/31BAlUT.
Piedmont is committed to keeping patients safe. That's why when you come to one of our hospitals, you'll talk with a screener before you come inside. The screener will take your temperature, ask health screening questions, and make sure you have a mask. We appreciate all of our screeners and their dedication to helping keep everyone safe. #Differencemakers
