We have been providing a hippotherapy program at Honeycutt Farm for the past five years. Hippotherapy has many therapeutic benefits, and we have seen our children make incredible progress as a result of their sessions with the horses. Hippotherapy is provided mostly to children who need to work on improving their lower body strength, balance, and coordination. In turn, this strengthens their ability to sit independently, become more mobile and achieve weight transfer skills. ...The slow, rhythmic movement of the horse, along with the warmth of its body are used to relax tight muscles. Changes in the horse’s speed or gait help to facilitate concentration, improve balance & stability and also to enhance speech development. There are simply no words to describe the emotional bond between a child and an animal but it certainly is a magical relationship that is chock-full of positive benefits. See more
