According to the Sentencing Project, in twelve states, more than half of the prison population is black: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Maryland, whose prison population is 72% African American, tops the nation. Living in both NJ and GA I've seen many of my friends and mentees get caught up in the system. This narrative will only change once our men understand their Noble Truth Project. Day 1 I’ve been nominated by Ayanna Parrent to do the 25 push-ups for 25 days challenge to raise awareness of mental health issues among our communities, such as PTSD, anxiety and depression and substance abuse disorders; conditions that tragically can lead to people taking their own lives, should they not find the support and understanding they so desperately need. Thank you for involving me, this is such a large challenge to our society and one even more relevant right now... in these extraordinary times, where so many people are finding themselves vulnerable, isolated and anxious. The rules are simple: *Once you are nominated your 25 days starts the following day. *Everyday you record yourself doing 25 push-ups even if you have to drop to your knees to get 25. Or even do them in clusters of 5. *Every day you must nominate a different person. Let's reach as many people as possible. Let's hope by doing this we can build awareness for anyone who is suffering from a mental illness. Remember, you are not alone and we are here for you; any time of the day or week. Don't be afraid to speak out!". You can choose if you want to add it to your Timeline to help spread awareness of mental health by doing 25 push-ups in 25 days. I remember when I first started teaching back in 2013. I knew little about standards but had a passion to help our youth. @dukejonbradley gave me my first job and allowed me to pour into the hearts and minds of 7th and 8th grade students. It wasn’t easy but I learned a lot about the art of teaching. Teaching was certainly the hardest job I had but it laid the foundation to my career in coaching and consulting. As schools prepare to open back up either in-person or virtual I just wish to show some love and apperication to all the hard working teachers out there.
