The best way to start a day is to get a text that a life has been saved. There is a mother that has been saved from a lifetime of grief. There is one less funeral being arranged. One less body being identified at the morgue.

When a child dies, part of a parent dies. That is a fact. From that point forward, parents live in a state of "partial life" due to having what is now called "...broken heart syndrome." We are just beginning to learn all of the facts concerning grief, the effects of grief, and the reality of how grief changes the very physical and emotional make-up of parents. Those who say to parents of child loss that they should have closure and move on simply do not understand the facts of what happens to a parent physically and emotionally when a child dies. There are very real changes that take place. The pain of loss is real. Yes, parents will eventually learn how to " live within the pain of loss" , but there will always and forever be a part of a parent that is missing. Parents of child loss are courageous beyond words! They are living with part of their heart and soul missing, and there is nothing ~ absolutely nothing ~ to compare to this kind of pain. God bless every parent of child loss this day with the continued courage and strength needed to go on Wonderfully written by Clara Hinton (2016)

"I am a mother. I am a bereaved mother. My child died, and this is my reluctant path. It is not a path of my choice, but it is a path I must walk mindfully and with intention. It is a journey through the darkest night of my soul and it will take time to wind through the places that scare me. Every cell in my body aches and longs to be with my beloved child. On days when grief is loud, I may be impatient, distracted, frustrated, and unfocused. I may get angry more easily, or I...Continue reading

In 3 days, on Feb. 26, will be my precious, loving son’s 39th birthday. Austin died of an overdose before his 25th birthday. It hurts so bad.In 3 days, on Feb. 26, will be my precious, loving son’s 39th birthday. Austin died of an overdose before his 25th birthday. It hurts so bad.

I know about addiction far too well for it has impacted my life and that of my family and friends. My biggest pet peeve is when people say "you had a perfect life, how could you mess it up like this over alcohol or drugs" or "if you want help you should just ask" or "We've already been down this road before and that it didn't work last time..." addiction literally consumes your soul and it's all you can think about! No one wakes up one day and says I want to be an alcoholic,o...r addicted to heroin, cocaine, opiates,or meth for the rest of my life... So today more than ever, I pray for the healing of addiction for all that are still struggling. There's a personal reason for asking everyone to put this message on their status for at least 1 hour. I know who'll do it! Think of someone you love who has had an addiction or who is trying to fight this evil whether winning or losing. I hope to see continuous efforts towards recovery & this status on all of my friend's walls. Don't share, please, copy and paste. #wedorecoverchallengechallenge See more

This is an amazing book and a must read for anyone wanting to understand how a person could fall into addiction and the physical pain of going through withdrawal.

Fentanyl in Local Drugs Have Resulted in Massive Overdoses The COVID-19 Pandemic and the resulting economic repercussions has dominated our headlines these past several months. Unfortunately, the opiate epidemic has taken a backseat in the news. As director of No More ODs, I feel it is urgent that the public understands the seriousness of the current overdose situation. No More ODs has a dedicated team with a finger on the pulse of the substance use community. Our members ...have reversed several overdoses. Savannah and surrounding counties are seeing an unprecedented amount of overdoses. There has been a rash of overdoses in Savannah and ALL surrounding counties. People are dying from fentanyl-laced drugs such as, bags of ICE (methamphetamine), Heroin, and Benzos/ Xanax bars. The 2mg Xanax bars or Benzos are homemade lookalike pills made entirely of fentanyl. One or two doses of Naloxone hasn’t been enough to reverse a fentanyl overdose, Be Prepared to Use 3 Doses or More. Call 911 because the Naloxone may wear off and the person will start overdosing again. Expect that any unprescribed drug has fentanyl in it. If you use ANY drugs, for safety, use a test strip to test for fentanyl, never use alone and always have Naloxone available, along with someone that can identify an overdose and knows how to use Naloxone to reverse it. People with a substance use disorder are your children, brother, sister, neighbor or someone with you do business. Those that are substance users are loved by many people. They are someone’s whole world. Let’s work together to keep them alive. If you are in the Savannah area and need Naloxone- Text 609-744-4144
