The young adults at Northern Star have been working hard in the area of transportation. One with her learners, the remaining 8 with their license, and 7 out of those 8 have their own cars!! The remaining youth without a car has saved $2500 in her DFCS savings account and is ready for the state to match her funds in order to purchase her own car. With all of these drivers, staff would really like help to keep up with car maintenence and teach the youth that would like to learn how to do a lot of their own car maintenence. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! I cannot begin to thank all of our supporters enough, both local and across the US, who have blessed our youth with items from their wish lists. We know we cannot make up for Christmases lost, but we love to create new memories of joy and happiness during this season. So many of our youth are getting ready for their own apartments or to welcome a new little one; I was very proud of the grownup items they asked for that they know they will need! Northern Star wishes you all a Merry Christmas and thank you for helping make this one special for all these young ladies!

Northern Star is receiving weekly calls to help community members in one way or another. We would like to be able to expand services to incorporate young adults outside of DFCS as well. Thank you to all who have donated to our most recent private placement. With the need continuing to grow, we have decided the best route would be to begin searching and writing grant requests for funding. If anyone knows of individuals who may be interested in helping us with finding and writing grants for Northern Star, please have them contact me. This could turn into a paid, long-term position.
