Oak Hill and The Martha Berry Museum 05.07.2021

If you guessed the Dining Room for this past Monday’s #BerryTrivia question, then you guessed right! While in the process of renovating the Oak Hill home in 1927, Harry Carlson, of the Boston-based architectural firm Coolidge and Carlson, stated in a letter to Martha Berry that he had found another wallpaper that I like better very much better I think it would be just the thing to wake up the Dining Room. Read the full letter here: http://ow.ly/WUOy50EUZXZ ... P.S. Did you know that Harry Carlson was the lead architect for the construction of the Ford Buildings, which feature Guastavino Fireproof Construction Company's tile vaults? #ZuberWallpaper #OakHillMuseum #BerryCollege

Let’s start this week with some #BerryTrivia! This location used to be the master bedroom in the Oak Hill home before 1927 renovations and the Isola Bella wallpaper print by Zuber featured in this photo can be found in the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee, Florida Can you guess this historic spot at Oak Hill? #BerryCollege #SceneatBerry #OakHillMuseum

#DidYouKnow that the tile vaults at the Ellis Island Registry Hall were built by the Guastavino Company?? From 1900-1924, the Registry Hall at Ellis Island served as one of the first places that immigrants would encounter upon arrival to the United States. In this hall, up to 5,000 immigrants a day were examined and registered by Immigration Service officers. Among them were the Guastavino’s Rafael Guastavino Moreno and his son, Rafael Guastavino Jr. immigrated to the Unite...d States from Spain in 1881. Thirty-six years after their arrival, Rafael Guastavino Jr. undertook the task of reconstructing the ceiling of the Registry Hall by using his father’s tile vaulting system! We invite you all to visit our exhibition, Palaces for the People: Guastavino and America’s Great Public Spaces, at the Martha Berry Museum! Use the link in the bio to reserve your tickets. P.S. Since Berry College is now open to the public, you will be able to see Guastavino’s work in person at the Ford Buildings! #GuastavinoTile #EllisIsland #OakHillMuseum Guastavino Alliance
