Ochwalkee Creek Farms 10.07.2021

It's Johnny's last night here at Ochwalkee Creek Farms . This sweet and beautiful stud colt is leaving early tomorrow for his new home all the way in Idaho! We'll miss him but we're always glad when we can help someone find their dream horse.

The benefits of herd raising foals: Mommy (chestnut mare in the distance) gets a break while baby eats with Daddy (bay horse in the front) . Herd raising #soapbox time While herd raising may not work for every horse, we find that keeping the stallion in with the mare(s) throughout the pregnancy (and throughout the year unless he's showing or training) makes for happier horses.... As a stallion owner, the benefits of a calm and happy stallion far outweigh the risks of him getting injured by the mare (a common "but what if" argument against both pasture breeding and herd raising with stallions). There's no running along fence lines pining for a mare, and he's content when I pull him out of the pasture for grooming, riding, etc. because he's already done his job . Plus, if you're planning to rebreed a brood mare, trying to catch that "3 days after" foal heat is an illusion in my opinion. My stallion just rebred our mare today, a week and a half after the mare foaled. I can guarantee you the stallion knows mare fertility better than you (or me or any human lol). Another common "but what if" argument is about the safety of the foal. In my experience, mother knows best, mares are alpha, and stallions understand when a flicked ear or tail mean "you stay over there" . If your stallion is already used to pasture breeding (staying with a mare for a few days), then herd raising shouldn't cause any issues-- he'll stay away from the foal as long as mama mare tells him and build his own horsey relationship with his foal naturally. Imagine if stallions were naturally predisposed to attack foals... the horse species would never have made it out of the wild! tl;dr: unless your horses just don't get along, herd raising is awesome. Risks are few, because horses know how to horse Horses are, after all, herd animals by nature

Hey! New year, new horse? I've been looking for you For your consideration, our 2019 Lippitt Morgan stallion Ochwalkee Gus is available. Gus (BCMF Sugarfoot Surprise x Amberfields Pebbles) is a beautiful bay stallion who has a lot of potential as both a breeding stallion and a future riding partner. **This is a great opportunity for someone looking to add to (or start!) their Morgan breeding program, ESPECIALLY if you are interested in Lippitts.** For some perspective on ...the riding potential of this horse: His sire and both full brothers (Ochwalkee Clyde and Ochwalkee Fred) have done dressage and jumping, in addition to being used for trails and lessons. Ochwalkee Clyde is now doing cross-country jumping with his young rider! See the comments for more info on Gus and a link to his photo album.

We are so happy to send off our retired Lippitt Morgan broodmare Sweetie (Wachuset Phacelia) to the next phase of her life with our good friend Sherri . Sweetie has been a great mama horse for us many times over, and we wish many happy years to her and her new person.

PRICE REDUCED For your consideration, our 2019 grey Morgan stallion Who Is John Galt is available to the right buyer. Johnny (Positively's Pride x Lane Corakko) is a beautiful grey yearling who has a lot of potential as both a breeding stallion and a future riding partner. While he was born black, Johnny is turning grey just like his dam. **This is a great opportunity for someone looking to add to (or start!) their Morgan breeding program, ESPECIALLY if you are interested in breeding for color.** Asking 3000; no payment plans. Message us at Ochwalkee Creek Farms for more information or to make an offer.

Half Lippitt Morgan available: Coquettish Ingenue (2019, BCMF Sugarfoot Surprise x LNT All Gussied Up). **Cookie is a sweet little girl with great potential. She loves people and gets along well with other horses. She has the potential to be part of a Morgan breeding program and/or become a great show horse one day. We've even seen Cookie hopping over logs in the field, square knees just like her show-jumping sire.** Make an offer! We are VERY motivated to sell soon as we are hoping to decrease our horse numbers. We will also consider trade for a working four-wheeler or ATV OR the right cow(s). Message us at Ochwalkee Creek Farms for more information or to make an offer.

Full Lippitt Morgan mare available: Wachuset Phacelia (1994, Cantieglen Eclipse x Wachuset MT Bell). Sweetie has been a wonderful broodmare for us but is ready to find a home to spend the rest of her days. She is a former show horse and, although a little out of practice, has a lovely, easy-to-sit trot. Because Sweetie is so loving and easygoing, she would make a great partner for someone (young or old) needing a gentle mare to ride or just cuddle; she would even make a great... lesson horse for beginners. Sweetie (aka Treatie) is a VERY easy keeper (Sweetie has tricked us more than once with "hay babies"! Lol) and stands great for shots, farrier, and grooming. While we adore our sweet mare, we would love for her to go to someone who can give her more cuddles and attention than we can. Make an offer! We are VERY motivated to sell soon as we are hoping to decrease our horse numbers. We will also consider trade for a working four-wheeler or ATV OR the right cow(s). Message us at Ochwalkee Creek Farms for more information or to make an offer.
