One of our teachers, Ms Angela M. Porter, wrote this moving post about how music is helping children cope. - So, today in one of my middle school music classes we were discussing the history of Reggae music. I picked the song Three Little Birds (Don’t Worry Bout a Thing) by Bob Marley for their listening assignment and had them write about how they felt the song applied to the times we are living in right now. Halfway through the song they were all singing, ...several waving their hands in the air, all smiling, full of joy. Here were some of their answers on their assignment: It applies to times because all we can really do is not worry about what's gonna happen and pray. I think the world around us needs to hear this song so they can trust in God and be happy. The song talks about not having any worries, because they will weigh you down and make you unhappy. The main message I can pull from this is trying to get the good out of everything in your life, and looking at the bright side. The song is about relaxing and trying to not be as stressed. There’s a lot always going on in the world. We should remember to take breaks. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it is very easy to get worried and stressed about the current situation. This has been hard for me personally. However, as Bob Marley says, everything will be alright and worrying doesn’t do anything. This song applies to current times because it gives us hope during these dark times. This song helps us relax, remain calm, and be happy as all of us are united in love and joy during this pandemic. Everything will be alright, and we will all overcome this pandemic. Through love, happiness, and prayer, all of us will have certainty that there is a bright future ahead of us. The whole thing was very moving for me as a teacher
