Although Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation you are encouraged to join us for Mass to begin your Lenten devotions. Ash Wednesday opens the season of Lent, a season of prayer and fasting as we prepare ourselves for the great celebration of Easter. ... Ashes are sacramentals that serve as visible signs that help predispose our souls to Grace. They symbolize the dust from which God made us and are a reminder of the grief we feel over our sins that separate us from God. As we wear our ashes throughout the day they serve as a sign that we are committing ourselves to a life in Christ. DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES. In this extraordinary year of pandemic, the Vatican has issued new directives for the distribution of Ashes. After the priest blesses the ashes and sprinkles them with Holy Water, he will turn to those assembled reciting Turn away from sin, and follow the Gospel or another formula. Then, in silence, ashes will be sprinkled on the heads of each person. Lord, protect us in our struggle against evil. As we begin the discipline of Lent, make this season holy by our self-denial. Amen.

The Mass is the most important prayer that we as Catholics can participate in. We hear God's Word and receive the Eucharist, the "source and summit of the Christian life." But how often do we go to Mass and feel like we are missing something? Or perhaps we don't understand the significance of what we are experiencing? Father John will celebrate a Teaching Mass on Monday, March 1 at 7pm (in church and via livestream at https://www.facebook.com/olachurch.atlanta) - one whe...re he explains the parts of the liturgy and you are able to ask questions at any time (except during the consecration). The Mass will be available for review later on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG33nKgZw8d1pPeuiQq9C5A

OLA ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY IN URGENT NEED OF FUNDS The members of our St. Vincent de Paul Conference thank you for your generosity thus far this year and during 2020. As we move into 2021, the devasting economic impacts of the pandemic on many families in our community have mounted. This has led to a sharp increase in requests for financial assistance from those we serve, resulting in our funds on hand reaching a critically low level. Many of our clients are st...ruggling to pay their past due rent and utility bills. Please prayerfully consider making a special or increased donation to our St. Vincent de Paul conference this month, to help keep families in their homes with the heat and lights turned on. To donate online, go to www.olachurch.org/online-giving and check the box for OLA St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thank you and God Bless.
