No matter what’s happening and how I feel I still have a job to do. I have two businesses to fight tooth and nail to keep open. I’m sad. I’m mad. I’m shocked. I’m appalled. But here’s some cute pets you could paint and take your mind off the shit we call life. ... That’s all I’ve got y’all. I will never understand. Trying to market a small business during this shitshow the last 10 months is pointless and awful. Bottom line. We love our painters. We love to teach you to paint. We love to alleviate the mood. But we are not ok. I’m starting to wonder if we will ever be ok. Honestly it’s to a point if you don’t support your favorite businesses. We won’t make it. Tomorrow I’ll try to be cheery and positive and yay paint. I just can’t today. I’ve worked tirelessly for over 7 years and I’m tired. I want peace. Happiness. And kindness. That is all.

Getting ready. Saw this welcome mat and had to have it at the Perry Studio. Did you know Perry will be BYOB? Assuming everything goes well at the City Council meeting tonight. That means we won’t have drinks for sale so make sure you bring whatever you want (beer, wine, hard cider, non alcoholic bevvies). ... WR will continue to be purchase by the drink. Just following laws, I don’t make them. What are some other differences? Perry will be smaller class sizes and have individual stations. WR will remain as is. - Also either location can be rented for private events. Book in advance because staffing is limited. Today was one of those days where you give the mouse a cookie. If you’ve become a mom since 1985, you’ll likely get that reference. I woke up earlier than expected and Jon had gotten all the Christmas boxes down. I started taking Christmas down. Once I undecorated, I needed to redecorate. Once I started that I needed to clean my China cabinet shelves. He’d also picked up Blue Dawn soap which I read makes your countertops lovely. Once I cleaned all the things off my c...ountertops, suds with the Blue Dawn, and buffed them... I decided I wanted to be more of a minimalist on my counters. To do that I needed to rethink my entire kitchen storage. So I started pulling everything out and reorganizing. Y’all. I found an unopened bottle of Tarragon Vinegar that expired in 2007. UNOPENED. Two thousand and seven. Which means it lived in TWO states, hell maybe three. It’s gone, along with all my other vinegars because... well I didn’t trust them. Or me. The only one that got to stay is malt vinegar, good until 2022. So fish and chips, I got you. I still have a lot to do but now I have an appliance closet! And I think a much more livable set up. I just took a long bath since I’d been standing all day and now I’m going to read my trashy romance novel while I look at my new winter decor. I loved all my little houses, I decided they’d stay. Once I got the ornaments off I got distracted with the other things and I may just leave my trees up through January. My flocked trees will likely be the only white we see here in GA. If you made it through my day in the life of a mouse with a cookie, bless you. Have you organized anything this year?

Heather texted me a little earlier about a work thing and I was sitting there going how does she know that tonight. It’s Sunday. Well. Apparently it’s Saturday. Which is good. I need another day. Also I have decided when I build a house I am going to install a closet the size of a hallway of my living room and I’ll just slide my Christmas trees all decorated in there and then slide them back out the next year. I do not want to deal with these Christmas trees and all t...he other decor. This should TOTALLY be a thing. Can the trees at work just stay paint trees all year long? I could put snow flakes, hearts, clovers, umbrellas, sunglasses, fireworks, back to school, pumpkins, leaves on it. Why does that sound like less work that just taking it out? Have you already taken your decor down? Let me know below. Surely I’m not the only slacker.

Please remember that we will have our last bookings at our sister business, Escape Artists, this weekend. Once they’re sold out, there won’t be any additions. Then next weekend we will have a big escape sale (like an estate sale but at an escape room). Times will be announced for that next week. Please join us sometime at one of our Lush Art locations. We will continue at our Russell Parkway location and I’m opening a Perry location on Main St in January. It’s been a wild ride, and while profitable Escape Artists just wasn’t my passion. And if we learned anything from 2020 it’s that focusing on what we really love is important. I just couldn’t recommit to a longer lease when my heart wasn’t in it. I love building relationships with our painters and that just wasn’t there with Escape Artists.

After much deliberation... My word of the year for 2021 is Aspire. Would you be interested in HOW I narrowed it down? If so, I’ll do an informal free zoom class to discuss. Comment below. Synonyms: aim, allow, calculate, contemplate, design, go, intend, look, mean, meditate, plan, propose, purport, purpose... I wanted something to be a positive way of saying this will be a year of trial and error, of trying and seeing what works, of balancing failure that is bound to happen, that this is the year where we will give it a whirl, a year we will have two locations. Running a business currently feels VERY much like the first year of business. A lot of unknowns, a lot of seeing what works and what doesn’t. I’m not sure if it has to do with the unknowns of opening a second location or just the current world we are living in and how much things have changed this year. After 7 years I’ve learned a lot and look forward to learning more. The girls at work call this one of my hippie dippie shit quirks. I don’t do resolutions. I set goals and intentions. I check in with those throughout the year. Usually on a solo trip away to reflect and recharge. I always choose a main word of the year, do you? Would you like to? I don’t know who else needs to see this but I related way too well. And thought maybe someone else would want to feel not so alone in their feelings today. I’m over here trying to set goals and intentions for 2021 and crying because none of my 2020 goals or intentions manifested. I’m just so damn tired and want hard work to pay off. I want to figure out what I learned from this shitshow of a year other than failure and sadness and that the unexpected can happen at any moment and take your world out from under you. And yes I feel grateful for all I do have and I know it could be worse. Which then I also feel guilty about. So if you feel like that too, I see you. Also I don’t know who created this and don’t @ me about it in a mean way. If you do know who originally created this please tag them so I can give them credit.

Our last class of 2020 (hallefreakinglujah) is Monday night in WR at our studio with Heather instructing. It’ll be a whale of a good time, and isn’t that what we allllllllllll need. Grab a friend, family member, significant other, teen and join us. Our goal for each class is safety while still having fun.

I miss nights like this. Full studio, laughter, magic, fun. I think this was 2016 at our Nice List Christmas Event. Maybe again one day. It’s been an honor to serve this community for the last 7 years. I sure hope we can make it through this mess. Saturday we will have an open sale @escapeartistswartown of items in the rooms at the business. This is going to be very casual, nothing is priced. Make an offer, bring some cash, and carry it out. It’s not been our day, week, month, or year. My heart is heavy. But then quotes like this find me. And sweet people reach out to me and say amazing things that remind me why I keep doing what I’m doing. Not gonna lie, I really wish things were easier. I wish business wasn’t sucking.
