There is widespread awareness and well-documented research of the serious harms and ineffectiveness of solitary confinement within the youth justice field. Some jurisdictions have made significant progress in reducing or eliminating solitary confinement while increasing safety in youth facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has presented new challenges for many facilities keeping young people safe from the virus without sacrificing important programming, services, treatment, and engagement. In this webinar, presented by the Stop Solitary for Kids Campaign, three juvenile justice agency leaders will discuss the lessons they have learned about navigating the impact of COVID-19 without relying on isolation for youth.
