Today’s noon conference was a Patient Safety & Quality Improvement conference given by our residents Drs. Onoriode Kesiena, Danny Tran, and Manisha Patel. They analyzed a patient safety event using the IHI’s Swiss Cheese Model, as seen below. This model is effective when analyzing errors in complex organizations, showing that errors that lead to serious patient harm are rarely the result of just one error involving one person. Today, our former resident, Dr. Zola Nlandu, presented a case he wrote that got accepted to the #infectiousdiseasesocietyofamerica for #idweek2020! Zola graduated in 2019, and is a current final year Infectious Disease Fellow at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Nlandu was recently featured in the New York Times "In Harms Way" project, honoring and highlighting the work of health care workers during the current pandemic.
