Violin Lessons

Ever wonder what the difference is between a good music teacher and a GREAT one? There are plenty of good private music teachers out there..those that teach the basics principles of whatever area you are taking. They use a good method book...the same for most all students...and are dedicated and positive. However....I learned many years ago the absolute necessity to NOT be a "cookie cutter teacher". What does that mean? Every child (and adult!) learns concepts of anything......in different ways and in different speeds. One of the important things that sets me apart, and increases the value of my teaching, is the fact that I try and reach the heart and soul of my student. What makes them tick? Are they overachievers in all they attempt? Or do they need motivation in every activity? Are they needing praise and affirmation in something in their life? How much can they absorb in a lesson period without going into information overload? I feel that my natural instinct is to know the answers to these questions almost immediately, which helps in the way I approach my lesson plans for each student. Every child is different. Therefore the methods must be different. Books I use and music I choose for them, must suit THEM. Each lesson plan must be individualized for every heart and brain going into the lesson....and that's what I do. I also encourage...give positive criticisms...explain concepts until they GET IT because I want nothing more than for every student to enjoy music and all the ways it can benefit their lives. I have a reward system for the young ones which helps alot and also, I hold competitions between the students from time to time in regards to practice time. They love that!
