This year's essential oil distillation has finished. A+ for our lavender fields and A+ for our farm crew who lovingly nurture our young plants, our middle-aged plants and the plants that are still producing years beyond all our expectations. After aging for a couple of years, all the fragrant gallons of essential oil and hydrosol that were produced this season will be used to make all our lavender lifestyle products! http://blog.pelindabalavender.com//all-about-lavender-esse

Don't throw your lavender clippings away! Once lavender is pruned, the plants enter their winter dormancy until the new growth appears in the spring. After you have pruned all your plants, you'll likely have quite a collection of clippings. These clippings make a wonderful garden mulch or, at the very least, addition to the compost bin. Waste not, want not.

This is your friendly garden reminder to prune your lavender. It should be done once a year to promote good flower development and to prevent overly woody stalks. Here's how to prune your lavender (don't worry, it's easy!). http://blog.pelindabalavender.com//how-to-prune-lavender-f

If you are looking to reduce chemicals, waste and energy in your laundry room, homemade dryer balls are a natural alternative to chemical-laced dryer sheets and fabric softeners. When made from 100% wool, dryer balls reduce wrinkles, increase softness, dry clothes more quickly reducing energy use and absorb static to keep clothing cling-free. Easy to make, (you don't have to be crafty) dryer balls are good for the laundry and good for the earth. https://bit.ly/31qGi6X

An elegantly rustic front door swag to celebrate autumn! Step 1 - get yourself a bouquet of dried lavender. Step 2 - get yourself a bunch of wheat from your nearest floral shop or craft store. Step 3 - combine the two evenly cutting some stalks shorter to create a tapered look. Step 4 - trim the ends, secure tightly with a rubber band band and cover the band with a beautiful ribbon bow to match your porch aesthetic. That's not even 5 steps! https://bit.ly/3aEGVLY

Last week we introduced a brand new product direct from the farm - Organic Lavender Mask Mist! For use with your lavender face mask (or any fabric face covering!), it provides effective, non-chemical prevention and treatment of mask-caused acne-like breakouts and delivers stress-reducing mask freshening. Organic lavender essential oil and hydrosol's antimicrobial and stress-relieving properties help keep bacteria and anxiety at a minimum everywhere you go. Bonus it also smells delightful...almost like walking through fields of blooming lavender! https://www.pelindabalavender.com/Organic-Lavender-/190.htm

Most varieties of lavender bloom during the summer. There are, however, a few varieties of the stoechas species that start blooming in spring and will bloom well in to autumn with deadheading. At the farm we have a few plants that, some years, have a few hardy blooms on them at Thanksgiving! Keep an eye out for these little pops of color during the fall...

Pretty soon we'll be putting the farm to bed for the winter. (We never close the fields, however. You are always welcome to come for a stroll anytime!) The waves of brilliant purple are gone, but they'll be back. Only 8 months to go until the lavender fields are in bloom again. Is it too early to start counting down?

To decompress after a long day, to soothe sore muscles or to give yourself (or someone you know) some self-care in these trying times, a lavender soak is just the thing. We're talking Bath Salts, Bubble Bath, Silky Milk Bath, Bath Fizz all made at the farm and all made with our own farm-distilled organic lavender essential oil. https://bit.ly/3d6WjDT

How to prune lavender is one of the most common questions we receive. When, how...etc. Pruning is absolutely essential for good flower development and to prevent overly woody stalks. It should be done once a year and really isn't very complicated with a few simple tips. We find the best time to prune lavender is fall, well before the first frosts come. In your own garden, as you are preparing your other plantings for the winter, add "prune the lavender" to your fall gardening checklist. You'll thank yourself come spring! https://bit.ly/3n7OaDV
