Step 4 of #IPM This step includes treatment of any current pest issues but might also include other measures that might not be what you would normally think of as a "treatment". For instance, rather than treating with a pesticide, your service professional might recommend measures such as caulking cracks in window frames or installing vents in a crawl space to discourage pests. These recommendations may accompany more traditional treatments with pesticides or may be suggested instead of such treatments. Did you know termites travel in tubes constructed of dirt or mud to protect themselves as they move from their colony underground to the wood inside your home? This video shows termite activity where the mud structure has been scraped away to expose them. You can see where they have eaten galleries through the wood structure. This damage weakens the structure of your home and can eventually cause a structure to collapse. #TermiteTipTuesday - Homeowners should periodically inspect the foundation of their homes looking for signs of termite "mud tubes" in addition to having a qualified pest professional do a thorough pest inspection routinely. These professional inspections are usually done annually and many company's offer these inspections at no charge to the customer.
