The Pettit Environmental Preserve

The kids were introduced to the Beavers at The Pettit Preserve. Billy went to the Kennesaw Parks and Recreation and did a presentation on the American Beaver for their summer camp program. It was a fun morning.

It was great having Wildwood Nature Academy at the Preserve. This group will be coming out for the next five Tuesdays to explore the Preserve

Leah Phillips, board member and volunteer for The Pettit Environmental Preserve, shared this photo of one of our resident Bluebirds. Come out to the Preserve for our June 12th Open Hike Saturday and learn more about the birds at the Preserve. Randi Sonenshine, Joel McNeal and Brandy Rogers will be providing programs and activities at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Randi will be discussing her book "The Nest that Wren Built" and having an activity for the kids. Joel and Brandy will be discussing the eBird and Merlin app and their results of bird watching at the Preserve. You might get an opportunity to work on your bird watching skills. The Preserve opens Saturday at 9:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm. The last hike is at 4:00 pm. There is no charge, but we appreciate donations. Dogs are allowed on a leash.

Thanks to Joel McNeal and Brandy Rogers for the bird count report. They came out for a couple of hours yesterday and did a eBird bird count. February 13th open hike - Saturday's open hike is cancelled due to 100% chance of rain. Last year our February open hike it snowed early that morning and the roads were pretty bad. Here is a photo from that day. Hopefully March will turn out better. With our family membership, you can hike, fish and picnic at your leisure. Feb. 12-15 submit your bird sightings on the eBird app or if you are new to birding, use the Merlin Bird ID app. It’s a super easy & fun way to contribute to the understanding of bird movements! We have a large amount of hardwood (Red oak, White oak) firewood that we are selling 1/2 cord minimum donation $100.00, you pick up. We can make arrangements for delivery at an additional cost.. This is a fundraiser for us and your purchase will be greatly appreciated. Wood is a little wet, so great for later in the season or next year.
