Congratulations to all of the 2021 graduates! Our community's students and teachers are incredible. Our own School Resource Officer Roach was invited to be the guest speaker. He inspires many and is a great leader to the younger generation. Thank you Deputy Roach and to all of the other deputies who worked security and traffic details to make graduation happen.

More vaccine is expected to arrive, although it is currently unclear when that will occur and in what quantities, because it depends on the overall national supply. When new appointment times are ready to be scheduled for residents who are currently eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, an announcement will be released to the public on the Pickens County, GA Government Facebook page and on our website with instructions for appointment registration.

On January 25, 2021, at approximately 4:16 am, three individuals entered Bells Pharmacy in Tate using a crowbar to pry open the front door. They were able to gain access to the pharmacy area of the store and removed a significant amount of narcotics. The three suspects were wearing black pants, black hoodies, and masks. One is seen holding a yellow crowbar and another one was holding a blue steel, semi-automatic handgun. At approximately 4:35 am, the same three entered the... Ball Ground Pharmacy in Ball Ground and took more narcotics. A late model white, four-door car is seen in the Ball Ground surveillance video. It appears the same group is responsible for other drug store burglaries in Covington, Newnan, and Gwinnett earlier in January. As many of you know, tomorrow, January 5, is Election Day. While you are out voting, exercising your civic duty, you may notice our deputies at your local polling stations. Many counties have experienced threats regarding elections, and while our county has not received any threats at this time, we will always err on the side of caution to provide safety for the community. While we don’t want to alarm anyone with our presence, we do want everyone to feel confident as they vote. Sheriff Craig has ensured that there will be deputies at all of the polling locations in the county. Enjoy a safe Election Day!

On Saturday, November 28, a deputy was patrolling when he observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red light. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and it was discovered the registration plate did not belong to the vehicle it was on. Assisting deputies arrived and the driver became disorderly and began obstructing the deputies. PSO K-9 Storm was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. Deputies then found large amounts of a crystal like substance appearing to be methamphetamine (over 2 pounds), cash and handguns. Both the driver and passenger were arrested during the incident. Thanks to the observant behavior of the initial deputy, the assistance of other deputies and the incredible service of K9 Storm, a large amount of methamphetamine was removed from the street.

During the holidays criminals begin to target parked vehicles in subdivisions, at stores or park and rides. Typically they look for unlocked cars first and enter them to look for anything of value they can take. However, if they find a locked car that has valuables in view they will often break a window to get to them. The damage to the car usually exceeds the value of the items taken. At retail stores they will watch for shoppers returning to their cars and confront the...m and take gifts and other valuables. They will watch for shoppers who take gifts to vehicles and then return to stores to continue shopping. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Pickens Sheriff’s Office offers these suggestions to protect yourself and your property during the holidays: Always lock your vehicles even if you are going to be away from it for a short time. Never leave valuables in an area that can be seen from outside your vehicle Try to park in well lit areas Be on the look-out for folks walking around parking lots who don’t seem to be associated with a vehicle Avoid returning to your vehicle if you see someone just standing around near by If you feel uneasy don’t be afraid to ask for an escort by security to your vehicle Store valuables in the most secure area of your vehicle. Trucks and SUV’s sometimes present a challenge. Take a break from your phone and be aware of your surroundings The offense of Entering an Auto with intent to commit a theft or felony is a serious crime and often difficult to solve. Remembering these suggestions can help you avoid becoming a victim.
