Pickens County Track & Field and Cross Country 14.10.2020

This past weekend, a total of 36 high school cross country teams from all across North Georgia descended upon Roper Park this weekend for the Pickens & Grinnin' Invitational hosted by PHS Cross Country. To reduce the amount of spectators and runners (due to Covid precautions), the field of teams was divided up so that half competed Friday night and the other half ran on Saturday morning. The teams running on Friday night got to participate in what was the first ever nighttim...e race under the lights at Roper Park. The cool weather combined with running after dark provided an atmosphere that seemed to energize and excite all of the runners, and their 5k times were an indication of that! The XC boy's team ran their best race of the season and came away with a 6th place finish out of 33 teams. Varsity Boys' Race- 278 Varsity runners total Seth White finished 5th overall Mason Ford, Andrew Williams, Will Hall, Noah Jones, Will Dodson, and Eli Eubanks all ran personal best times in the race. JV Boys' Race- Alex Korowotny, Wyatt Richards, Ethan Carlan, Reagan Hardison, and Blake Moss also ran their personal best times in Friday night's race. The Varsity Nettes were led by Bekah Wise, who finished the 5k race with a time of 21:54. Showing strong performances and setting personal records for the varsity team were Penelope Hobgood, Makenzie Black, Meadow Palmer, and Raven Holsenbeck. Also setting personal records for the Nettes on the junior varsity team was Ruby Santos, Kaitlyn Goss, Ava Owen, and Rubi Gonzalez. The PHS cross country teams will host the Region 7-AAAA Championship Cross Country Meet next Tuesday, October 27th at Roper Park, with races beginning at 12 p.m. We wish the best of luck to these teams as they battle for a spot to compete at the GHSA State Championship Cross Country Meet.
