As we enter into flu season during the COVID-19 pandemic, it's important now more than ever to get your flu shot. Primary Care physician Jemese Richards- Boyd explains why getting a flu shot will be so important this year and what precautions you should take to prevent getting the flu. https://bit.ly/2HxYZiG
Work hard, play hard and support your team hard! That's the motto of Piedmont Athens' Athlete of the Month Juandarion Silas, linebackers for the Cedar Shoals football team. He was nominated after a concussion, from which he's since recovered. https://bit.ly/3kMhOwZ
Planning to #vote in person? Be sure to choose safety first! Take precautions at the polls by following the 3 W's.
Long-time Athens resident Julie Massey Jenkins recently donated $100,000 to Piedmont Athens Regional’s new tower in memory of her parents, Juliette and Henry Massey. The hospital has always had a special place in my heart, Jenkins said. I was born there, and it’s the place that cared for both my parents before they passed away. So, Jenkins took the appreciation she felt for her community hospital and put it to work. https://bit.ly/31BAlUT.
Piedmont is committed to keeping patients safe. That's why when you come to one of our hospitals, you'll talk with a screener before you come inside. The screener will take your temperature, ask health screening questions, and make sure you have a mask. We appreciate all of our screeners and their dedication to helping keep everyone safe. #Differencemakers
In honor of #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, the Kimberley Chance Atkins Foundation presented Piedmont Newton's Women's Diagnostic Center with flowers as a thank you for their work promoting the importance of screening mammograms and the early detection of breast cancer.
Flu and COVID-19 can be tricky to tell apart. So how can you protect yourself this season? Follow the 3 W's: Wear a mask, wash your hands, watch your distance. And don't forget your flu shot! https://bit.ly/34dB5RQ
Scott McAuley, our Executive Director of Pharmacy, partnered with colleagues at GradyHealth, Wellstar Health System, Northeast Georgia Health System, Emory Healthcare, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to remind you to #Choose3Ws to protect loved ones and frontline workers. #PharmacyWeek Wear a mask Wash your hands ... Mask up! Labor & Delivery nurse Catilin Flanigan misses showing her face, but she knows masks are crucial. "COVID is a virus that should not be taken lightly," she warns. This #DifferenceMaker urges you to #Choose3Ws: wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance.
Nurse Jessica Guy has seen a lot during COVID, but she's still inspired by community. "Communities are really coming together and supporting each other, and even strangers, in times of craziness," she says. Thanks to #DifferenceMakers like Jessica for inspiring us, too!
Disco docs! Piedmont Henry leaders CEO Dr. Lily Henson, CMO Dr. William Watkins, and Executive Director of Patient Services Brent Robinson brought the party to the floors while rounding on staff. Anesthesiologist James Adkins even got into the spirit!
#BreastCancerAwarenessMonth is more than a pink ribbon it's personal milestones. After completing radiation for breast cancer, Lisa Childres rang a bell to mark the end of treatment. Her care team "made this difficult time in my life so much easier," she says. Congratulations!
Celebrate #HispanicHeritageMonth! It means something a little different to everyone. "My heritage was a motivator to became a physician," says Dr. Bania Gabriela Calero. "I wanted to be a Hispanic Spanish-speaking doctor to help Hispanics close the culture and language gap."
With that nice, cooler weather that the fall season brings also comes the flu season, a period that usually peaks between December and February but can last as late as May. Family medicine physician Dr. Joel Garrison recently shared some of the key differences between COVID-19 and flu as well as things to know with The Walton Tribune: https://bit.ly/3jXPKWG
