We have updated our care partner (visitor) policy to allow 1 essential care partner (per patient per day) for the Midtown and Northside Campuses, John B. Amos Cancer Center, and Piedmont Physicians practices. This is effective at 8 a.m. on February 23. https://bit.ly/39MUKtE To further clarify: -No care partners for COVID patients. -Exceptions to this rule will be made on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the Administrator-On-Call.... Additionally, care partners who are ill or ages 12 and under are prohibited. People ages 70 and older are strongly discouraged from visiting. Care partners that are allowed to enter must undergo a temperature check and health questionnaire before entering. During this challenging time, please utilize the Virtual Visiting Resources page our Patient Experience team has put together to help you communicate with loved ones or friends who are in the hospital: https://bit.ly/3kJk6NG.
Leave your congratulations in the comments for our May #FirstFridayHeroes Anne Land, Jarrel Whitehead, and Stephanie Aker with the Columbus Department of Fire and EMS. Land, Whitehead, and Aker responded to a call of an unresponsive patient. Upon arrival, Land inserted a tube in the patient for better breathing while Aker placed the automated external defibrillator (AED) machine on the patient and Whitehead began chest compressions. The AED delivered two shocks, and the patie...nt re-gained heart activity before crews arrived at Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Midtown Campus. The patient was treated and released two days later. Because of the crew’s quick and professional actions, this patient was given a second chance at life. This is a prime example of how important it is for fire engines to carry advanced cardiac life support equipment and have paramedics on fire engines.
When a man was hospitalized after being involved in a motorcycle accident, he was very worried about his dog since there would be no one to check on her. Nurse Katie Lafferty assured the man she would go to his home and care for the dog. When Katie got off work, she drove to the man’s house and found Precious the Poodle. Katie has agreed to continue taking care of the dog until her human is released from the hospital!

After much anticipation, the first of two new Neonatal Transport ambulances were delivered to our Midtown Campus- talk about a wonderful holiday gift! The ambulances feature two former patients on the side. The purchase of these ambulances were made possible by generous gifts from the Auburn University Dance Marathon Auburn University, Batson-Cook Construction, Ride for Miracles, Synovus, Aflac, and the Shelby and Wanda Amos Foundation. When the unexpected happens, the Neonat...al Transport Team ensures our tiniest patients are brought to the NICU with the highest levels of efficiency and care. The Neonatal Transport Team makes more than 200 trips a year to ensure that newborns in 21 counties are cared for when they need it the most. We could not serve these tiny newborns without the support of dedicated community partners. Staff with Piedmont Physicians Pediatrics at Midtown Columbus made sure this Christmas would be merry and bright for patient families in need this holiday season! The office held a contest for the second year where patient families could write a letter explaining why they needed assistance. After reading through the submissions, staff bought Christmas gifts for five families out of their own pockets. Watch the moment when the patient families found out what staff had done for them: http://bit.ly/3mP1ewt.

Leave your congratulations in the comments for our October #FirstFridayHeroes Francisco Dominguez-McCraine and McCartney Witsell with Ems Care Ambulance. A hospitalized patient was scheduled to be transported to another healthcare facility for long-term care. The patient didn’t look right to Witsell and Dominguez-McCraine. They voiced concern to staff and advocated for the patient to stay at the Midtown Campus. Soon after, the patient’s blood pressure dropped and became unresponsive. Because of the EMS crew, the patient got much-needed care prior to being transported to another facility.
