Runners are prone to overuse injuries, especially if you’re increasing your mileage training for a race. As a runner myself I understand wanting to power through the pain but often you’re doing more harm than good. Here are some common running injuries. If you continue to feel pain after resting come see us so we can get a game plan on how to safely get you back out on the road! #piedmontorthopaedicsandsportsmedicine #acfas #footandanklesurgery #running

Quads Burning with these exercises! This girl has been working hard post surgery and is really working to improve her quad strength to get back to basketball! Isometrics are really challenging her to keep her quads active during double and single leg activity, plus getting cocontraction at the hamstrings and hip to prepare her for plyometric activities and future sprinting, cutting, and jumping! Can’t wait to see her soar! #piedmontorthopaedicsandsportsmedicine #returntosport #postoprecovery #basketball #physicaltherapy #sportspt #burnthosequads #isometrics #balance

Gymnast, Cheerleader, Dancer, or other artistic athlete?! We so often see back pain come up early in these athletes, and sometimes, the cause is unknown. One potential cause, is hinging at the ThoracoLumbar junction of the spine, since we want a nice smooth curve during bridging and extension exercises. It may not cause pain early on, but present itself over time after repetitive extension movements that these artistic athletes perform ove...r and over again. How can we prevent this or fix the problem? 1) Consult your local PT, AT, or movement specialist for a sport specific functional screen. 2) Improve on Core strength. 3) Look not just at the movement of the spine, but how the shoulders and hips are moving to compensate for the back. #piedmontorthopaedicsandsportsmedicine #artisitcathletes #gymnastics #cheerleading #dance #ballet #sports #athlete #bridge #functionaltesting #injuryprevention See more
