SENIOR MOMENTUM"Slow as Christmas Luke 1:45 Mary, did you know? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcc94dHZ_Ts How fast do you want Christmas to come this year? I’m Dr. David Sumrall and today’s Senior Momentum is from Luke 1:45-46, 65. And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever. Slow as Christmas is ...a phrase often used to describe something or someone that takes a long time to occur or act. When we are children, it seems like Christmas will never come. We used to pester our parents to let us open up our presents early because we could not wait until Christmas morning. When we become adults and had to pay the bills, Christmas came much faster. Imagine waiting for Christmas to come for hundreds of years. Centuries passed between the promise of a Messiah given by God through the prophets and others and its coming and the coming of Christ as a baby in a manger. Then the silence was broken. Every Jewish woman hoped that she would be the mother of the Messiah, but who would have known that the Messiah would be born to the virgin Mary. God promised Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah. Expecting a baby is special. Expecting a savior is miraculous. Christmas is a time of expectation. You will never fully understand the mystery of Christmas. Norman Vincent Peale told about two men who were standing on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in New York City during the Christmas rush, waiting for a red light. One of them was irritated by the traffic. He growled, Look at this traffic! It’s terrible! Something ought to be done about it! The other man was more thoughtful. He countered, You know, it’s astounding, the romance of it. There was a baby born of peasant parents in a little out-of-the-way place halfway around the world from here. The parents had no money or social standing, yet two thousand years later that little boy creates a traffic jam on Fifth Avenue, one of the most sophisticated streets in the world. This irritates you. It should fascinate you. God promised Mary that she would be mother of the Messiah. Expecting a baby is special. Expecting a Savior is miraculous. Christmas is a time of expectation. Are you expecting God to bless your life this Christmas? God will bless you if you will let him. Know him as your Savior and Lord. Expect God to work in your life. Let us pray. Our Lord and Savior, who came into our world over 2000 years ago in Bethlehem but lives in our hearts today. Thank you for your light and salvation. Help us to celebrate Christmas with expectation and wonder of your continuing work in our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Question for thought: How are you preparing for Christmas?
