When the water temperature in the pond drops below 50 degrees it's time to completely stop feeding your goldfish and koi for the winter. The metabolism of fish slows drastically at this point and the fish cannot properly digest food. Also, your biological filter is becoming less active and cannot breakdown the food and ammonia.

Whether you feed your fish every other day or 3 times per day, or any other frequency feed only what the fish can eat in under 5 or 10 minutes. If there is still food floating after 10 minutes scoop out the excess and feed less next time. Uneaten food can be harmful to the pond’s water quality.

Are your koi practicing social distancing? A happy Koi fish has adequate room (not overcrowded with other fish), well oxygenated water, a diverse environment with places to hide (bubbles, waterfall, plants, etc.), clean water (correct filter), and is fed with quality food.
