The Attorney General spoke last night about the affects of substance abuse on our nation. 1) Cost on society $700 billion annually (Healthcare, work force, criminal justice system, etc. ) 2) 21 million Americans suffer from the disease of addiction ... 3) Only 10% will receive treatment. 4) 10% of those will maintain recovery. 5) Someone in America dies every 9 minutes from an Opioid overdose. 6) Substance abuse is the 2nd leading cause of death next to heart disease. 7) Alcohol kills 6x more people than all other drugs combined. - Addiction is a brain disease. It is chronic, progressive and fatal if not treated. This disease is the most treatment resistant disease known. It's the only disease we know of that the patient try's to stay sick. Most every family is or has been affected. If you or someone you know is losing the battle, please reach out for help. The purpose of treatment is to provide a safe environment for an individual to heal and find peace with themselves. It is important above all else. Without peace nothing else matters.
