We are replacing the transmission on an f550 today. The transmission was damaged beyond repair due to lack of lubrication. A leaky cooler line caused the demise of this expensive transmission. We are installing new lines as well as flushing the cooler with our hot flush machine.

Just another day at the shop!

If you are getting a transmission rebuilt or replaced, make sure the shop is equiped to do the job properly. It is critical that the cooler and lines are flushed with a hot flush machine. Most vehicles have a cooler built into the radiator as well. Without this machine you should technically be replacing the radiator when the transmission is done. Otherwise you will be contaminating the new transmission as soon as you start it which will result in more transmission problems. These pictures show our machine in use.

These pictures demonstrate why engine cooling system maintenance is so important. The pipe on the left is from a well maintained truck. The pipe on the right is from a 2012 ford truck that has never had the coolant changed. The upper hose neck on this radiator is about to break off due to corrosion. We recommend changing your engine/radiator coolant every 50,000 miles.
