Muscle spotlight: diaphragm This is our stayin’ alive muscle. It is located in the center of the body, living the inside rim of the lower rib cage and has attachments on the spinal column. Proper function of the diaphragm helps with core stability and the body’s ability to absorb force and to breathe of course! Because if it’s close ties to the nervous system, deep breathing can promote relaxation and decrease stress a very pertinent topic these days. Certain postures can make it more difficult for the diaphragm to function properly. This is why good running and cycling posture is important! (Hint: we can teach you how) #atlantaphysicaltherapy #precisionptatl #running #cycling #triathlon #stayingalive #breathe

I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs. -Jesse Owens

Knowing that I gave my son the gene for ARVC has nearly killed me, and every time I think about it, I get nauseous. I feel responsible for ruining his life before it even got going. Hearing your son has the one thing you never wanted him to have is crushing. It’s as if all the breath has been sucked out of your chest, and you are suffocating. All the emotions, pain, and grief I experienced about my own diagnosis were nothing compared to this news and my reaction to it. You have the pride. You can walk about with character and pride no matter in what place you happen to finish. -Billy Mills
