New Year. New Skin. These photos where taken just 4 weeks apart! They are the results of just one Enlighten peel and a customized melasma protocol prescribed by our Nurse Practioner, Heather Fry. We know that dark pigment, under eye circles, and melasma can be challenging to treat. We meet so many woman who come to our office frustrated by the amount of time, energy, and money they have invested into addressing their pigmentation to only have minimal or short lived results.... The biggest misstep we often hear about is the lack of continued care after treatment. Patients are not educated that managing melasma is a continuous process. It is not one and done. No single laser and no single peel will leave you pigment free. Once you lift and lighten the pigmentation you need to enter into a "maintenance phase" to prevent a rebound of your pigmentation. This includes a combination of topical creams including hydroquinone, vitamin A, ascorbic acid, and physical SPF. So how do we develop melasma/dark spots? Melanocytes are cells located in our skin. They are responsible for making melanin that is responsible for our skin, hair and eye color. When this melanin is over produced from hormone changes, heat exposure, ultra violet light, or inflammation we develop dark spots on our skin's surface. How do we manage pigment? 1. Disrupt melanin production 2. Bleach or fade pigment 3. Keep the melanocytes responsible for pigmentation "quiet" so you do not have a rebound of dark spots after your treatment. The Enlighten Peel is a unique depigmentation peel applied in office by our medical staff. It is not painful and does not require heavy skin shedding similar to a medium to deep chemical peel. It is specifically designed to improve melasma, hyperpigmentation, and even the dark discoloration under the eyes! There is NO downtime just 7 days of light peeling, flacking and redness.
