Purple Heart Of North Georgia, Chapter 826

I am sad to report that the North Georgia Chapter 826 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart has been disbanded due to the unwillingness of any members to step up and accept leadership roles. Colonel Joshua Wright speaking to our members and guests at our third annual holiday dinner. Twenty-six members and guests attended meeting at Charlie's Italian Restaurant in Ellijay.

Department of Georgia Commander, Walter Swenson joined us for our third annual holiday dinner in Ellijay. He is flanked by US Army Colonel Joshua Wright and Sergeant Major Vaughn Overton. Colonel Wright is the Professor of Military Science at the University of North Georgia. Colonel Wright was our guest speaker for the evening meeting and ceremony.

During our third annual holiday dinner, our own Dr. Will Mattison was honored with a "Quilt of Valor," which was presented by Linda and Jim Gorman of Blairsville. The Quilt was made by the "Women in Stitches" sewing group of the Cartecay United Methodist Church in Ellijay. Also present at the ceremony were the women who made the quilt and Will's grandson. Will is 96 years old, and an inspiration to all of us.
